2023.11.26 - Titans vs Panthers

Jeffery Simmons

The Titans’ 2024 schedule begins with a road game against the No. 1 overall draft pick, features a Monday Night Football rematch against Miami, and will include five AFC South games in the final seven weeks.

Those are some of the highlights of the 17-game schedule, which was revealed Wednesday night.

The Titans will get the first regular-season crack at Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who was selected first overall by Chicago last April.

Williams won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore at USC in 2022, throwing for 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns and five interceptions. He followed that up as a junior in 2023 by throwing for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. The 6-2, 201-pound Williams also ran for a combined 21 touchdowns in his last two seasons.

The opener in Chicago will also pit Tennessee against former Titans’ star safety Kevin Byard. A two-time All-Pro during his eight years with the Titans, Byard was traded to Philadelphia last October for safety Terrell Edmunds along with fifth- and sixth-round draft picks in 2024.

The Titans and Dolphins will meet in Miami on Monday Night Football on Sept. 29, marking a rematch of a classic MNF contest from 2023. In that game, the Titans scored two touchdowns in the game’s final 2:40 to capture a thrilling 28-27 victory over the Dolphins. Will Levis threw for 327 yards and a touchdown in that contest, while DeAndre Hopkins caught seven passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.

That game is the only scheduled primetime contest for the Titans, who had two primetime games in 2023 — the one against Miami and a Thursday Night Football game vs. Pittsburgh. Only one team, Carolina, has fewer primetime games this season than the Titans.

The Titans’ schedule shouldn’t create a lot of travel headaches.

Aside from a trip to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in Week 10, the Titans will stay in either the central time zone (10 games) or eastern time zone (six games) for the remainder of 2024. The schedule will allow the Titans to stay in a regular routine as well, as 14 of the Titans’ 16 games prior to Week 18 are scheduled for Sundays at noon CT.

Specific dates, start times and networks for Week 18 matchups will be determined and announced following the conclusion of Week 17.

The Titans won’t play their first division opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, until Week 6 (Oct. 13) at home. They won’t play their next divisional game until Nov. 24, when they travel to Houston in Week 12. That starts the stretch of five divisional contests over the final seven games, including two games against Jacksonville in December.

One other note: New Titans head coach Brian Callahan faces his former club, Cincinnati, on Dec. 15 at Nissan Stadium. Callahan was the Bengals’ offensive coordinator for the past five seasons.
