On Friday, ETSU’s Mats Ege was named a finalist for the 2023-24 Haskins Award - given to the top male U.S. collegiate golfer as voted on by only college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media.

Ege learned of the announcement as he and the rest of the Bucs settled back into their golf facility while taking some swings Friday off the heels of their NCAA Regional trip in Chapel Hill.

"It feels great. Looking at the names up there, there's a few names I'd like to catch up to for guys playing better golf than I have," said Ege. "It's awesome having your name up there with some of those guys and just being in the same mix as them is pretty cool."

Not only is Ege joining elite company across the nation for his performance in his senior campaign, it has also set him up for a life in professional golf after his time with the Bucs. Upon the end of the NCAA Championship Tournament, Ege will play in the U.S. qualifier - marking the beginning of his path to the pros in early June.

"Going back to Georgia for that, it'll be for me, my first professional event, which is good because I've been to that course before," added Ege. "I have good memories from there, so it helps with the transition for sure."

Ege, a two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year, has totaled three wins, seven top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes in 12 tournaments played this season. Ege won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Wake Forest Invitational and the SoCon Championship.

This season, Ege has generated a scoring average of 68.86, while he has registered 30 sub-par rounds in 36 rounds played. Overall, Ege, who ranked No. 10 in the PGA Tour University Rankings, has played the 36 rounds at 87-under-par - helping lead to his name being placed on the Haskins Award list.
