Inclement weather kept the game from being completed Friday or Saturday, and the teams are set to return to the field Sunday afternoon.

The highly anticipated finish to the TSSAA District 6-3A baseball title game that was expected Saturday didn't happen.

It's not that the conclusion to the matchup between Signal Mountain and Soddy Daisy didn't live up to its potential; it's just that another day of unfavorable weather kept the Eagles and Trojans from even getting on the field to resume the suspended showdown as planned.

Delayed since a thunderstorm hit Friday night at Red Bank High School, the host site for the tournament, Signal Mountain (23-8) and Soddy Daisy (27-6) will try again at 1 p.m. Sunday to pick up where they left off.

Signal Mountain leads 9-7 with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Trojans are threatening with cleanup hitter Cooper Poe up to bat and Keith Scoggins on third base.

Due up in the top of the seventh for the Eagles will be Blake Wolfard, who is batting sixth in the lineup.

The Eagles entered the championship game averaging a robust 9.5 runs per game this season, while Soddy Daisy's pitching staff had allowed just three runs per game.

There have been two lead changes in the title showdown, with the Eagles scoring two runs in the second inning, one in the third, two in the fifth and four in the sixth. The Trojans scored four runs in the second and are in the midst of another big inning with three runs so far in the sixth, thanks to a bases-clearing triple by Scoggins.

Soddy Daisy won the district's regular-season title and is ranked seventh in Class 3A by MaxPreps.com, while Signal Mountain is ranked ninth.

After having Saturday off, Soddy Daisy's Cooper Poe and Signal Mountain's Ben Timblin will be allowed to return to the mound after throwing 48 and 42 pitches, respectively, in relief Friday. TSSAA rules allow a high school varsity pitcher to return to action after a day of rest if they were within the 26-to-55 pitch-count range.
