JOHNSON CITY — It required playing at three different sites, but Dobyns-Bennett’s Emery Corpstein controlled the action to win the boys’ singles title at the Region 1-AA individual tennis championships.
The Indians sophomore won his semifinal match before the final against Greeneville’s Jackson Weems was moved to Johnson City’s Liberty Bell Tennis Courts. Corpstein was literally a couple of points away from clinching the match when heavy rains forced the match to be finished at Johnson City Country Club’s indoor courts.
No problem for Corpstein, who finished off a 6-2, 6-4 victory. It was a sweet reward for Corpstein who barely missed winning the region in 2023.
