Cyclones Fall In Substate DH To Gibbs

Elizabethton was unable to keep the season alive.

The Cyclones dropped a 7-4 heartbreaker in game one and fell 12-0 in game two to Gibbs in the Class 3A Section on Thursday evening at Gibbs. With the loss, Elizabethton’s incredible season comes to an end.

In the first game, it was a battle.

Neither team was able to get on the board until the bottom of the fourth as the Eagles plated a pair of runs.

The Cyclones, however, answered as Jeriah Griffin hit a single to push Brayden Buckles across the plate, and Bryson Rowland plated Griffin with a single. That tied the game up at 2-2 going to the bottom of the fifth.

The Eagles struck again in the bottom of the sixth with five runs.
Elizabethton kept battling.

Buckles scored off a Griffin single. After Jack Blevins hit a single to get two runners on base, Rowland hit a single that plated Griffin. However, the Cyclones were unable to keep the rally going.

Rowland went 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Steven Meadows and Griffin went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Blevins and Rhett Slagle added a hit apiece.

In the second game, Elizabethton was unable to get anything going.

Gibbs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second and added three more runs in the top of the third. Elizabethton kept battling but was unable to rally back.

Justin Whitehead, Rowland, and Slagle each had a hit in the game.
