The Gordonsville Tigerettes added more hardware to the trophy case Thursday night as they defeated Jo Byrns in the Region 4-1A championship game in extra innings, 3-2.
Gordonsville junior pitcher Kailey Plumlee struck out 20 batters while surrendering 2 hits and 8 walks while going 2-3 with a walk and an RBI offensively.
Jo Byrns scored a run in the top of the second and fifth inning to hold a 2-0 lead over Gordonsville entering the bottom of the fifth.
A single by Plumlee followed by a double from Kelsie Watts drove in Kelsey Haley and Camri Johnson to tie the game at 2 runs each.
The contest went to extras tied at 2-2. Plumlee struck out the side in the top-half of the frame before Abby Brinkley drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to walk in the winning run and secure Gordonsville a 3-2 championship victory.
Up next for the Tigerettes is a Class A sectional contest against South Pittsburg on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
