The Tullahoma High School softball team played the Upperman Lady Bees in the Regional semifinal and lost 9-3.
The Lady Wildcats had a tough game at the plate, recording just seven hits. Tullahoma went three-up, three-down twice and lined into a double play to end the first inning. They only drew three walks. Madison Goad led the way offensively with a pair of singles and a pair of walks. Addye Norman, Sara Tate, Aleigha Raby, Elizabeth Simpson and Miaha Johnson had the other hits for Tullahoma. Brindley Gillam took the other walk. Kylee Holt picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning to get Tullahoma on the board when Raby crossed the plate. Norman got an RBI in the next at-bat on a groundout that scored Simpson. Holt scored the third run in the fifth on an error by the opposing catcher trying throw out Goad stealing second.
Amaya Sharp pitched the complete game for Tullahoma, throwing 137 pitches. She struck out five batters. Upperman had 10 hits against Tullahoma, walked seven times and scored eight earned runs.
The Lady ‘Cats finished the season 15-11 overall and 6-4 in district. Tullahoma won the Class 3A District 8 Championship. They had to beat Franklin County, Marshall County, Giles County (regular season winners) and Marshall County again for the title. Tullahoma averaged 8.4 runs during their five District tournament games, while allowing just 5.4 runs. Sharp threw four complete games in the tournament and six innings in the game she did not start. She totaled 35 innings, 13 strikeouts and 16 earned runs over the tournament. Holt led the team with 10 hits in the tournament, including two three-hit games and another two hit game.
Tullahoma had seven players with at least 20 hits on the season. Goad led the team with 49 hits. Norman had 42, Holt had 38, Gillam had 32, Gattis had 30, Tate with 29 and Raby had 23. Goad also led the team with 68 RBI, the next closest were Norman and Gattis with 27 each. Gillam had 22 and Tate had 20. Goad hit 13 home runs, Gattis smacked three and Tate had one. Holt broke the school record the school record for runs scored with 47 on the season. She was just two stolen bases away from the team record with 29 on the year. The team had a total of 288 hits, 270 runs scored and 235 RBI. The Lady Wildcats threw a combined 146.2 innings on the year. They allowed 121 runs, walked 138 batters, struck out 80 batters and gave up 198 hits.
