NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball coach Gary Van Atta has signed Perry County forward Alecia Weatherly to play for the Trojans next season.
Weatherly is a finalist for the 2006 TSSAA Miss Basketball award in Class A. Weatherly is a 5'9" senior forward who has averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds this season. Weatherly has scored over 2,000 career points for the Vikings. Weatherly was named to the 2005 All-State team and has helped Perry County post a 78-20 record the last three seasons for Vikings coach David Lee. In 2004 the Vikings reached the TSSAA State Tournament Semifinals.
Gary Van Atta is excited that Trevecca has added another quality recruit for next season. "Alecia comes from a great family and a great program under Coach Lee at Perry County, she will not only be a great player on the parquet floor in Moore Gym, but she'll be a perfect fit for our campus."
Trevecca is 29-4 on the season and ranked No. 5 in the NAIA Top 25. The team will play in their seventh consecutive NAIA National Tournament next week and enter the tournament with one of four No. 1 seeds in the tournament. Trevecca will face Park University on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. in the first round.
Trevecca has already signed a full recruiting class with Jessica Spencer (Page High School, Franklin), Abby Lawson (Cheatham County Central High School, Ashland City), Paige McFarland (Mt. Juliet High School), and Christian Gibson (Mt. Juliet High School)
