Chilton County High School’s girls tennis team qualified for the Class 5A state tournament by finishing second in its sectional tournament on April 16.

The Tigers will competed in the state tournament Monday at the Jimmy Johns Tennis Complex in Decatur.

CCHS entered the sectional competition with a record of 5-0 in the area.

Mary Colby Kelley, Anna Bearden, Jessica Morgan and Caitlyn Smith competed in the finals against Walker High School.

The doubles teams of Ada Ruth Huntley/Smith, Adams/Bearden and Kelley/Morgan competed in the doubles finals against Walker.

The Chilton boys just missed a state tournament berth, finishing third in the sectional. The top two teams from each sectional advance to state.

The Tigers boys entered the sectional with a 4-0 area record.

Rett Russell and Ryan Baker competed in the finals against Walker, as did the doubles teams of Nick Lyn/Russell and Baker/Conner Morgan.

Both CCHS teams won their last area matches before sectionals, against McAdory on April 12.

Girls singles winners included: Huntley (8-0), Adams (8-4), Kelley (8-0), Bearden (8-1), Morgan (8-3) and Smith (8-1).

Doubles winners were Huntley/Smith (8-5), Adams/Bearden (8-1) and Kelley/Morgan (8-0).

Boys singles winners were Lyn (8-3), Russell (8-1), Baker (8-1) and Morgan (8-2).

Doubles winners were Lyn/Russell (8-3) and Baker/Morgan (8-4).

The Chilton girls ended their season with an 8-1 overall record, and boys finished 4-3 overall.

The players finished with the following records: Huntley (8-1 overall, 5-0 area), Adams (7-2, 4-1), Kelley (8-1, 5-0), Bearden (9-0, 5-0), Morgan (8-1, 5-0), Smith (7-2, 4-1), Anna Lemus (2-3, 2-0), Huntley/Smith (7-2, 5-0), Adams/Bearden (8-1, 5-0), Kelley/Morgan 8-1, 5-0), Lyn (5-2, 4-0), Russell (6-1, 4-0), Baker (5-2, 4-0), Morgan (6-1, 4-0), Michael Seaton (2-4, 2-2), Nate Adams (3-4, 3-1), David Miller (1-3, 1-0), Lyn/Russell (6-1, 4-0), Baker/Morgan (5-2, 4-0) and Seaton/Adams (1-6, 1-3).
