TRM basketball at Flomaton: B-team and varsity win, girls fall

T.R. Miller’s B-team picked up their second straight win and the varsity Tigers picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night at Flomaton.
The B-team Tigers improved to 2-1 overall with a 38-27 win over the Hurricanes. The varsity Tigers earned a 61-46 win to improve to 1-2. T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers suffered a 36-27 loss to remain winless this season and fall to 0-7.

TRM Varsity 61, Flomaton 46
Dominique Jackson poured in 20 points and Trae Walker added 18 as T.R. Miller’s varsity Tigers clinched their first win of the season Tuesday at Flomaton.
“I am very pleased with the victory,” T.R. Miller head coach Juan Johnson said. “We faced a little adversity in the first half as we had hard time finishing in transition. A big part the game was our ability to pick up our defense intensity and forced a few turnovers in second half that led to some easy baskets.”
T.R. Miller led Flomaton 13-11 after one quarter of play and 32-27 at the half following a 19-16 advantage in the second quarter. In the third quarter, the Tigers outscored Flomaton 14-10 to increase their lead to 46-37 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, T.R. Miller used a 10-0 run to start the quarter and went on to outscore Flomaton 15-9 to seal the win.
Along with Jackson and Walker, Caden Lodge had nine points, Chardian Johnson had nine, Kieon Smith had two, Jalen Jones had two and Trin Miller had two points.
The Tigers were 18-for-28 from the free throw line.

TRM B-team 38, Flomaton 27
In the B-team game Tuesday, T.R. Miller earned a 38-27 win over Flomaton.
In the game Tuesday, T.R. Miller jumped out to an 11-6 lead over the Hurricanes after one quarter of play before edging Flomaton 7-6 in the second quarter to grab an 18-12 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Tigers held Flomaton to two points while pouring in eight of their own to increase their lead to 26-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, despite being outscored 13-12 in the quarter, the Tigers were able to hang on for the 11-point win.
Tamerick Jenkins led T.R. Miller with 12 points and Markail Mitchell added eight points while Ahmaud Taylor had six points.
Austin Holmes had five points while Joshua Jolly and Michael Campbell both had four points each. Demonte Jenkins added one point in the loss.

Flomaton 36, TRM Lady Tigers 27
Despite a furious rally in the fourth quarter, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers remained winless as they suffered a 36-27 loss to Flomaton Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers trailed Flomaton 31-10 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Lady Hurricanes 17-5 in the final quarter of play. Despite the 12-point scoring advantage, T.R. Miller lost by nine points.
Flomaton led T.R. Miller 6-5 after one quarter and 22-7 at the half after outscoring the Lady Tigers 16-2 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Flomaton held a 9-3 advantage to take the 31-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Leading T.R. Miller in the loss was Mekhia Williams with 15 points, two rebounds and four steals. Star Drakeford added six points, five rebounds, one steal and two blocks. Steely Ruzic chipped in five points and two rebounds while Shayn Bradley had one point, one rebound and one block.
