Page baseball names players for All-Section

Four Page players were named to the All-Section teams for Division III, Section I baseball, Page coach Alex Randel announced Monday.

Shortstop Tyler Janes was named to the first team, and pitcher Carson Wright, second baseman C.J. Ripka and first baseman Denton Siebrecht were named to the second team. Page was the 14th seed in D-III and defeated Snowflake in the first round and lost to eventual state champion Fountain Hills in the second round.

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout has been elected to his 11th All-Game and four Texas Rangers were chosen by fans for the American League's lineup for the July 11 game at Seattle's T-Mobile Park. Trout was voted to start for the 10th time and will be joined in the AL lineup by teammate Shohei Ohtani, who last week was chosen at designated hitter as the league's top-vote getter in the first round. Nine first-time starters were picked by fans, including three Rangers: catcher Jonah Heim, shortstop Corey Seager and third baseman Josh Jung. The Texas Rangers are the only one of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball that aren't hosting Pride Night during a game in June as part of Pride Month. The Rangers say they are committed to making everyone feel welcome at all games. The team plays in a state where conservative lawmakers passed several bills in this year’s legislative session to crack down on LBGTQ+ rights. The Houston Astros hosted a Pride Night this week. Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman says the 25-game suspension the NBA slapped guard Ja Morant with "was appropriate." The GM also said Thursday night after the NBA draft that it's up to Morant to change the behavior that led to two suspensions in four months. Kleiman is the first team official to publicly discuss Morant's situation and the NBA's latest punishment of the two-time All-Star for flashing a gun on social media after the season. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the latest suspension June 16 and made clear Morant must stop his "alarming" habit of flashing guns on social media. The percentage of Black players in Major League Baseball has been on the decline for decades, but prospects at MLB's Draft Combine this week think that may soon change. Several highly touted Black players are hoping to become the next Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts or Andrew McCutchen. A recent study from The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at Central Florida found Black players represented just 6.2% of players on MLB opening day rosters, down from last year's previous record low of 7.2%. TCU used a four-run fifth inning to take control of the game and went on to beat Oral Roberts 6-1 in a College World Series elimination game. The Horned Frogs will play Florida next and would need to beat the No. 1 national seed Wednesday and again Thursday to reach the best-of-three finals. The Boston Red Sox are among the teams in major league baseball commemorating Juneteenth. The Red Sox honored Ben Haith before the second game of their doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Sunday. He's the designer of the red and blue Juneteenth flag with an exploding white star. Haith threw out a ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park and said he felt like he was "living a miracle."
