Barney....Cupp here. I am doing well at CAK. The story is not complex. Summer of 24 I was told that the AD position at WBHS would no longer be a Asst Principal/AD job. It would be AD only. They told me I could be a teacher/AD instead for a $25,000 pay cut and teach two classes. I declined. They then said I could retire and they would hire me back as an AD only on a contract. That contract along with my retirement would be the same amount of money. So I accepted that offer. Unfortunately that was the year we had revolving Directors...Murrell resigned in December...Jake Jones then resigned in February...Dr T took over for a couple of. months..then Justin Ridge got the job in April. On June 6 2025 three days before my retirement started I was told that contract was no longer an option. So I was stuck. I then went in for a meeting on June 11 and was told I was no longer needed at WBHS. I was definitely in shock. However, knowing that I was not gonna take the teacher/AD position for such a substantial pay cut and knowing they could not hire me as AD only on a contract they probably had no choice. I went and said my good byes and the next day I found a job at CAK as an Assistant Principal. So I am currently drawing my retirement of 32 years in public education and making full salary at CAK since it is private. CAK is a great place and I am enjoying my time as the Dean of Students. As far as WBHS goes Jordan Conley will do great. To be honest there are lots of capable folks there and I hope they do well. Last summer everything was a shock to folks there as it was to me so there wasn't a lot of interest in the position. I applaud Wendy Petty for stepping in when there was a need. She and Tyler and Amanda worked very hard to run the Athletic Department. I am always available to help when needed. I spent 30 years of my life at WB as a student, teacher, coach, assistant principal, and AD and want them to be successful.
