AlcoasPaintedBridge
Well, RC and the boys are planning to do away with the multiplier by the 2009 season. What does this mean and who will be affected most? I am all for it as Alcoa has to travel ridiculous miles to find a non-region game, maybe some the privates that are moved down will find room on the schedule for us (Knox Catholic). And maybe Goodpasture wil win a state championship (OK that was a cheap shot, I'm sorry.) I had a feeling that this would happen or the open-zone schools would be thrown in with the D1 privates. Discuss. The End of the Multiplier. (maybe)
Indian
Here is what I came up with, using the latest enrollment figures from the TSSAA site. Some of these are already clearly outdated enrollments but it should give a general idea of what it will be like, if passed. Let's focus less on the public private issue in here since there's a forum for it elsewhere. A few quick notes: Goodpasture and CAK could remain 2A, it will probably be close depending on their enrollments and others below and above them. Alcoa would probably gain Catholic but should lose Loudon, Sweetwater also should be on the edge of 3A. Sequatchie (around 650 now), Cannon County, Smith County should all be 3A. The Chattanooga 1A region might have nine teams to start, with the new Signal Mountain school making 10. Maryville and Rhea County should easily be 5A as these numbers are apparently well below their current enrollments. 1A David Brainerd 88 Zion Christian 104 Temple 106 Rossville Christian 125 Mt Juliet Christian 135 Knoxville Grace 138 Clarksville Academy 142 Oakdale 163 Silverdale Academy 165 Gleason 166 Greenfield 169 MTCS 171 Columbia Academy 174 Sunbright 179 Chattanooga Grace 181 Nashville Christian 182 Pickett County 192 Red Boiling Springs 201 Bradford 208 Copper Basin 208 Trinity Christian 214 Friendship 217 Cloudland 218 Huntland 222 Hollow Rock-Bruceton 224 Greenback 226 Coalfield 227 Clarkrange 231 Fayette Academy 233 Lookout Valley 233 South Fulton 244 South Pittsburg 247 Clay Co.249 Jackson Christian 251 Lake Co. 258 Midway 268 Ezell-Harding 279 FRA 279 Cornersville 281 Moore Co. 286 DCA 286 Harriman 301 Eagleville 310 CPA 310 Collinwood 324 Westside 326 McEwen 329 Community 334 Perry County 336 Monterey 339 Wayne County 339 White House Heritage 341 Whitwell 343 Gordonsville 345 Boyd-Buchanan 347 Watertown 347 Unaka 348 Jellico 353 West Carroll 354 Jo Byrns School 356 2A Middleton 356 Manassas 358 Goodpasture 360 CAK 373 USJ 378 McKenzie 382 Halls 383 Mt Pleasant 385 Union City 391 North Greene 400 Forrest 402 Chattanooga Christian 405 Huntingdon 407 Peabody 407 Summertown 411 Cosby 411 Trousdale 414 Cascade 422 Oneida Houston Co.425 Wartburg 425 Dresden 432 Humboldt 433 East Robertson 436 Richland 441 Adamsville 442 Hampton 443 Decatur Co. Bighurt
Ronnie Carter can make that recommendation but doubt that the Board of Control would pass it. JMHO
66in74
Indian, If that make up takes place it would really change the scenary in Region 5-3A. Lipscomb back to 2A and Giles Co and Creekwood to 4A. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
Indian
Giles and Creekwood could probably go either way, like several schools.
rollredroll
I am all for it as Alcoa has to travel ridiculous miles to find a non-region game, maybe some the privates that are moved down will find room on the schedule for us (Knox Catholic). And maybe Goodpasture wil win a state championship (OK that was a cheap shot, I'm sorry.) I'm lost on a couple of fronts: 1) Why would a private school's classification dictate its willingness to play a certain school? In Catholic's case, they played two DII programs and a good DI-4A program this past year. They played the bigger DII schools (e.g., MBA, McCallie) when they were in a smaller DII class. They didn't exactly avoid competition in non-region games, nor have they avoided tough games in the past. 2) Goodpasture, as far as I can tell, has played at AA for as long as they have been in DI. As far as I know, programs can play up in classification but not down, which means Goodpasture, if their enrollment qualifies them for I-A football (don't know if it does or not), has chosen not to play at that level. In fact, Goodpasture has even won a title at the AA level. Why would Goodpasture do anything different going forward (I presume you meant they would drop to 1-A), when they could have been playing I-A ball all along if their pre-multiplier enrollment dictated it? Indian
I never remember Goodpasture having 1A level football enrollment. The reason they'd be on the 1A/2A edge if these numbers are still good is because teams like Forrest and Mt Pleasant are just above them and possibly rising from 1A, Chattanooga Christian starting a team and new schools larger than Goodpasture's 360 being added to the mix. AlcoasPaintedBridge
I'm lost on a couple of fronts: 1) Why would a private school's classification dictate its willingness to play a certain school? You kind of made my point for me in a sense, I was complaining about mileage...but in the immediate past, Knoxville Catholic has scheduled the likes of Baylor (2-8) and Morristown West (7-4) both considerable drives as well. Alcoa is 15 miles away. In 2006 they scheduled winless Wartburg. I like Catholic, their coach and their program. But, if you have an opportunity to play a quality opponent less than a half hour away, you take it. Webb is their traditional non-conference opponent and a heck of a series and they will always keep that, the same as Alcoa will always play Maryville. As for the second part, the classifications, if changed will be lower number heavy. Most "privates" will be lower in numbers and logic says that they will be either 1 or 2A. The Chattanooga area as well as Nashville will have the biggest impact in that sense because if you are not a private school, you are 4 or 5A. (Just another way of saying what Indian just said. )
FBCOACH
I have mixed feelings about the multiplier. I can certainly see how the 1A public schools feel about it but since the lawsuit I think we will see some movement on this front. I could be wrong but I think the TSSAA is headed in a different direction, for better or worse.
JohnJohn
Goodpasture has for most of the years had a 1A enrollment but elected to play up. Since 1995 they have won 3 state titles and have had 4 runner ups. The most recent title came in 2001 when they beat Alcoa in the Semi Finals and Westview (with former UT D Lineman Justin Harrell) in the title game. BigDave1967
Everyone on CoachT has been talking about the Multiplier and the future Public-Private separation since the very beginning of CoachT most likely and will probably still be talking about it for the next decade
