Oak Ridge Middle School Football and below

Anybody in the know know if any of our middle school teams are good this year? I am hearing Jefferson is loaded this year? Hear Robertsville may be down? What about Little Leagues? Any talent? Thanks!

The short, Jefferson will be better than last year. They won last week and that is one more win then they had last year. Robertersville will be down but competitive. The lost to Webb on Tuesday. Dooley's son for Webb was a beast. Little league teams should be good. They finally got back into a stable conference. There is a lot of talent, Talent is not the problem, the big problem with kids now a days is with parenting and schooling. You take a typical 5-6 year old team and by the time the reach the middle school and high school many of those kids may not be able to play due to attitudes, grades etc.

Yes, or they just want to focus on one sport. Don't see many multiple sport kids these days.

OR East looks to be down this year. NAGAF went 3-1 against them among all age groups. Don't know yet about West because NAGAF hasn't played them yet. I would think that one issue for a little while will be that quite a few players were playing at Claxton while the OR teams were outside the VFC.

Well, when you combine both teams together, it may have been different. We have 2 middle schools. But, many things can happen between when your that young, to when you go up to HS. Lots of changes. I remember the team i played on at OR when i was a kid, we were horrible. Well, my SR class went on to have 3 SEC athletes in it. And, Thurman Bates was on my team, too. You may be familiar with him, Stars. He transferred and played for Maryville. This was in the mid 90's.

How many schools feed into Alcoa HS and how many students attend the MS?

Alcoa's middle school has as many players as both OR middle schools combined. With the size of that city, who knows where they get them all from, but they do.

That's kinda what I suspected. I'd say Jefferson and Robertsville, if combined, would smoke Webb too.

Yes, i'd say woulda beat them pretty handily. Our coaching in the little league and MS ranks is lacking, though. That plays a big part. Not every body has the privalage of a Maryville and Alcoa little league to middle school system with the coaches being intact for years and running the same system over years at a time. We don't have the privalage right now of having that in Oak Ridge. That's our problem, not talent. This city will always produce talent. it's just a matter of them being coached up. Once they get to the HS level that's not a proble, for Blade is a dang good coach. It's just having the feeder system programs that Alcoa and Maryville have is the issue. These things are what have put both of those teams over the top and above their competition in recent memory. Along with talent, of course. But, talent coached up from a young age is even better. Doesn't matter what kinda talent you have if you aren't being coached up well from a young age.

They've been highly disorganized for the last several years with a lot of infighting and craziness but the talent is usually always there. As for Alcoa and Maryville leagues, I agree. Not many communities have that at all. It's like a machine. I wish we on the east side of Anderson County, Nagaf and LC, could get something like that going!

I feel ya lol...Wish we would, too. And we used to have that in OR. But, people die, move away, or just move on to bigger and better things in life. Life is all about changing. We need somebody to take charge, though. Wish i could, but i don't even live in OR anymore.
