Blackman vs Bowling Green

I am sure if BG had not converted the 4th and goal the "officials" would have called blackmon for something.

The BG players were quoted as saying the blackmon players did not give them proper respect (also that they had class and were the better team despite being outgained 327 to 192 yds), what did the blackmon players say? I never saw any of that.

I was a neutral observer tonight. I am a fan of BG's biggest rival, but wasn't willing to drive to Cincy to watch us play. So I decided to go across town to see this game. I have no love for BG, but they were the classier team tonight.

I was taken back by the way the players AND coaches from Blackmon carried themselves. It started pre-game when Blackman ran right through the middle of BG's entrance to the stadium. It continued in the first half when players would taunt BG players after they made a nice play. This boiled over to halftime when the players taunted the BG crowd and when confronted the COACHES got in a shouting match with those trying to get their kids to calm down.

The officials had no control in the first half. They decided to clean up all of the tainting and trash talking (needed to be done). Blackman never adjusted. They continued to taunt and when they were called for it preceded to argue and whine. They earned every one of those unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The coaching staff should be ashamed of the way they allow their kids to act. It probably cost them the game tonight.

Thanks for your post and perspective. I only listened to the game on the radio, the announcers (from Middle Tenn) did not mention the taunting (I don't anticipate the announcers are going to be nominated for any sports Emmy awards in the near future by the way).

My opinion on what I witnessed last night "what a rat hole!" You call an un-sportsman like on Shank (one of the nicest kids you will ever meet) the ref said "don't push me and threw the flag" Then they don't throw the flag on their guy when he hits Juan a good two seconds after he's out of bounds on BG sideline. Shad is a bigger man that I am. I would have loaded the bus at the half and headed to the boro cause you ain't gonna win that one. Sometimes you gotta beat 11 and sometime you gotta beat 16, last night it was 16.

On a positive I liked the way we battled and the Fant kid is a stud. :popcorneater:

Ok.  I've posted very little this year choosing to stay out of all the arguing that goes on on this site but I was at the game and I feel a need to respond to this post.

As far as Blackman running thru Bowling Greens entrance onto the field - It was unintentional and due to the poor setup of Bowling Green's field.  For those that were not there, there was no visitors side.  One big Home side.  Blackmans fans probably had about 1/3 of one side of the field.  Therefore Blackman set up to run out on the field in front of there fans which were on that side of the field.  Bowling Green sets up to run on the field from the other side and runs at an angle right toward the visitors bench.  They both happen to run on the field at the same time and therefore run right into each other.  Completely unintentional by both teams so this should be the end of this being an act of disrespect by Blackman.

The most classless part of the 1st half in my opinion was Bowling Greens coach who was very demonstrative the whole 1st half while yelling at the officials and also going into halftime.  He was the one that almost incited a riot with his actions at that time.  It was him that caused Coach Shad to come over to the official who was being yelled at by Bowling Greens coach and caused some kind of words to be exchanged.  This is what fired up Blackman's team and had them extremely geeked going into halftime that Bowling Green seen as disrespectful.

As far as all the personal fouls on Blackman, All I know is the officials appeared to be ready to call them on us all night, but evidently it was pretty difficult to get one called on Bowling Green.

I will say there was a couple of classless Blackman fans yelling a lot at this game.  I had never seen or heard these guys before and am not sure why they were so vocal.  I did not like hearing that from them but unfortunately you got some of these in every crowd on every team.

Otherwise great game between 2 really good teams.  The Fant kid for Bowling Green was the best player on the field in my opinion.

Go Blaze!!!

I can tell that you were at the game last night. I think most Bowling Green fans and players were upset about the Blaze making their entrance on the Purples sideline and the incident at halftime. I myself didn't think about how confusing it might be for visiting teams to know where to make an entrance. Someone from our school should have told them. I can't remember anybody doing that in the last 25 years, but now I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. As to the halftime antics, our coach is very demonstrative (very good word for him). He works the refs like that every game. It's just his style. The Blaze coach was pretty animate last night as well. I don't know if it was a reaction to our coach or not, because I don't know him. I thought maybe they were both trying to fire their teams up. Fans in the stands get a watered down version of what happens on the field. All we saw was our glorious coach standing up to against the tyrannical Blaze coach and his players. It did fire both teams up.

It was a great high school football game. Blackman is the real deal and we were lucky to come out with the win. Their QB could play anywhere on the field and one of their linebackers looked like Ray Lewis. I was wondering, why with 130-140 kids on the roster, do they always play 4 or 5 players both ways? The refs loaded up the penalties on Blackmon because they talked a little smack after the play was over (I know, imagine that) and the cardinal sin, talking back to the referees. Up here you have to " respect their authority ". I noticed in the McCallie game that the refs let them be more physical and vocal in Tennessee. By the middle of the 3rd quarter, it was all about football and the football was great. Our wide receiver / return specialist, Nacarius Fant is something special. Luckily, I will get to watch him for 4 more years at Western Kentucky. Blackmon has a great team and on any day could beat any team in Tennssee. Good luck on doin just that,

So the first couple of pages of this thread are people brazenly thumping their chests about how much better TN football and Blackman are than KY and BG....then the remaining pages are people talking about how much Blackman got cheated by the officials....

Blackman's coach advocates for the classiness of his players and program yet they get 7 personal fouls...and he then proceeds to be quoted by the media as saying "those idiots in Bowling Green..." (you can see this if you follow BG Daily News Sports writer Zach Greenweell)...

The irony here is pretty thick.

Blackman is a great football team. They are well coached and play an excellent brand of football. But does anyone wonder why at no point the HC didn't circle his team up and say, "Look, we're going to have to play this one silently. Don't talk, don't celebrate anywhere but over here on the sidelines with your TEAMmates, don't give these officials ANYTHING, just play like you can play." Had they done that, they'd be 9-1, not 8-2.

Blackman and their HC strike me as a team who wants to be the 80's Miami Hurricanes on the field but be regarded as Notre Dame in the press. If you want to chirp it up, throw up hands and play with your chest puffed out, more power to you, but don't be a hypocrite and hide from that image and behavior when it bites you in the butt.

The result of the crying foul by Blackman is a soft, weak, excuse-making sham that is totally unlike the team that they actually are.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
