I recon I'z the only Sissy Mountain poster on here's anymore, but I figgered my Eagles need a 2014 thread, so here it is.

We'z losin' our big FB, James McClellan, and TB, Diamez Franklin, but we got 4-5 strong and fast RB's that we will rotate frequently until the opposing defenses' tongues is draggin' the ground.

Also, losin' 3 starting OL, and that might be our hardest gaps to fill.  I expect some of underclassmen to get under some weight in the off season, so we should be okay on the OL.

I expect Teter will be the starting QB again.  All the WR's are back and some good young guys are working hard in the receiving corp.  I expect our passing game to play a more dominant role next year.

On defense, we're losin' a beast in Jacob Wright on the DL, and big Marcus as well.  Losin' a good LB in Dusty Hall.  But I ain't worried a bit about our DL and LB, 'cause most of them wuz Jr and Soph last year.  Our front seven will be our strength next year.

We've always struggled with our secondary, but Garland Wood, a freshman this year, really came on toward the end of the season.  He is probably the fastest guy on the team and should be a force at safety next year.  Our other DB's are all returning, and I thought the whole secondary was really starting to click toward the end of the season.

Overall, we're losing 8 seniors that saw significant starting time.  But returning 12 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 4 freshmen that saw significant starting time.  Last year we had a lot of players shifting around, with lots of changes to the starting line-up, and a lot of guys that rotated in, getting good playing time.

I think we will be an overall stronger and more balance team next year, so I expect my Eagles to be a contender in the playoffs.  Should be some good competition in 4a next year.

Troll, Sissy Mountain has all kinds of tallent. I think your team will be more competitive in 2014 than the past couple of years. I'll be following from afar.

By the way, I saw that Childress man at Cooke vegas as we tamed the Lions and battled the elements. He said to tell you that you were a no good, low down, cheatin' and recruitin' troll. I just smiled and said "Troll likes you too." He's a nice on isn't he?

Go Alcoa! (And Sissy Mtn)

SMHS will(IMO) go 7-3 with losses to East Hamilton,Notre Dame and Greeneville.

Our non-district schedule is (IMO) one of toughest around.  I say we beat East Hamilton and Bradley next year.  Honestly don't know what Tyner and Greeneville have returning.  The cheatin' leprechauns will should be a force, their last year in Division I, and they may be our first ever district loss since our first year against South Pitt in District 6A, but I say we'll whoop Notre Dames buts again.

I don't see you beating East Hamilton. You should've this year but you lost your bull dozer runningback so I don't think you can pull that one off and Greeneville is like South Pittsburg they just reload and don't skip a beat. You should get Bradley and Tyner though. ND will be tough but that one is a toss up. Moon getting any D1 looks? That guy needs to be featured more with his size and speed. I'm just keeping it real

We will have a stable of good backs next year, kinda like several years ago, and our passing game will be more active and productive.

So far, Moon has offers from Vandy and Ga Tech.  Everybody is looking at him as an offensive tackle, but I personally could see him as a TE.  I think most of us on the Mountain want to see him with the ball more, but he is invaluable as a blocker in the wingt.  Would love to see him get the ball more next year.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
