9 AA baseball

There is a whole lot of unknowns going into this season with the new district. The Indians under new coach, Coby Ginsberg have certainly changed their work ethic and attitude. It will also be nice to have a full compliment of assistant coaches, (Black and Halstead) to help manage this young team. Pitching will be an unknown until we actually get started, got lots of arms, just need to see who will step up to be the District guys.

The field is in the best shape it has been in for many years after lots of hard work by all. Looking forward to getting started very soon. Would someone please explain to me the logic of TSSAA in making us wait so late to begin practice?

What does the rest of the District look like??????

T$$AA and logic?

My guess is that they made an attempt to make all sports have the same amount of conditioning, practice and in season work, but that's just a guess.  I'd rather give up the coaching days in the fall for more in January, particularly for pitchers getting their arms ready.

No clue on how to begin making predictions in the new district.  From experience so far, the rest of 9AA will put Harpeth lower than they'll finish. ^_^

I am not sure what rules you are following. There is no restriction on pitchers working at any point other than the dead period. Pitchers throwing is covered under the "conditioning" umbrella per Gene Menees.

Also, there are no "coaching" days in the fall either other than pitchers. If there has been coaching done in the fall as a school staff then you have violated TSSAA rules. You can have no more than 4 players on any one fall team from one school.

Yeah, the fall ball restrictions have changed since my oldest played fall ball with the 4 per team crap, but those 4 guys are getting coached by someone.  Same for the next 4 that play for a different coach.  It's stupid.  Really there's no real baseball instruction until February, a month before the puny 7-8 week season starts unless you get private instruction on your own.  The freakin' basketball post season lasts almost as long.

I think that's the point being made.  I also wonder how bull pens are construed as conditioning and BP is not.  Maybe if the minor sports could somehow make T$$AA more $$?

  • 2 weeks later...

Harpeth dropped a tough one to Ezell Harding 4-3, bats and pitching were pretty rusty. The most positive thing I saw was the new ATTITUDE that the Indians have on the field, very impressive! Gone are the days of dropping your head after a failure and ump stare downs....

They are a different team and will get better as we get some more field time.

Good!  I'll pay to watch then.

Couldnt agree more. Baseball gets a month to coach their players (in the middle of winter) before their first game. How long does fb get????????

Watch out for the War Eagles this season as they are looking very impressive. As strong as their teams have been in the past I am fully confident that their team is even better this year. They have the potential to run the tables if they work hard and play with a chip on their shoulder. On the other hand they could also be a flop..... All depends on their work ethic

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
