Let me start by saying congrats to Jackson Southside and Blackman for their Gold Balls. Any game can change in .5 seconds. If GCA player makes the free throw our players would be devastated instead of celebrating. That team plays with so much determination. Their point guard could play with anyone in Memphis. Our guards take pride in stopping the opposing team PG but he was the best we faced all year.

This season was emotionally tiring for us. Without the true leadership of Coach Phillips, it could have turned out very bad. We lost our leading scorer in December and many of us were a little concerned. Coach handled this so well with our players. Losing his offense could have really hindered our progress. The approach that Coach Philips took was very amazing. He decided to replace his points by holding our opponents to the exact fewer points that we lost. He pushed the players so hard on defense and they all bought in.

I have been around Mitchell most of my life from a student to now an Administrator and this is the most amazing team we have had. From an individual talent perspective I can name 6 or 7 better teams, but as a team that really loved each other none was better. This team had no jealously or selfish play at all. Example: Kareem Austin was the hero in the GCA game but only took 1 shot the Hampton. He never said a word just smiled and gave is all. They had each other’s back.

GCA, Hampton, and Meigs County are well coached. They had excellent game plans but it is just hard to deal with our quickness unless you see it on a regular basis. GCA played the best zone we faced all year.

The last thing I want to give is a little advice t1A teams. During the regular season please schedule as many 2A and 3A teams you can. Our record was not the best of any team we faced in the state because of our schedule, but it prepared us for anything we faced.

Our road will not be easy next year. UC, Humboldt, BTW, and MAHS will be very good but we look forward to defending the title.

Congrats to you guys Galilee!

On a side note, Humboldt might have one of the worst teams they've seen in years. They lose all starting 5 and I want to say the first 2 off the bench as well. This area is going to be down a bit. Union City should still be decent, but its going to be down compared to years past.

I only saw the  AAA games but the one thing that stuck out was how bad the officiating was in all 5 games I saw. Hats off to the players, coaches and fans from all the teams, they all were great. The Blackman & Brentwood students almost shook the arena down ... WOW!!

AAA officials were TERRIBLE!!! I'm not a whining fan, just stating facts! I watched a lot of BB this weekend, and will never complain about the refs in our district again. WOW!! If I had to live through officiating incompatency like that all year, I would never go to a game again.

My team was the beneficiary of one of those calls, probably changed the "mo" in our favor and got us the win. We were also the victim in the next game. In saying that, I still would rather see refs that can stay out of the flow of the game and just make calls. These guys got caught up in the games and started making calls the way they liked instead of the way they saw it.

We must do as other states, and have a grading system instead of the good ol' boy system we have now.

    • Shopping? His family is loaded and he's 6'6 I'm pretty sure he could start anywhere in upper East TN,So no need to shop. Word is Witten got caught trying to work him out on campus and some 7 on 7 while playing athletics for Sullivan East. Word got around pretty quick and Someone turned them into TSSAA.
    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL
