Big Games Coming Up

With district play starting to heat up I thought it would be good to have a place to talk about big games or big rivalries that are getting ready to take place before district tournaments and what they mean to the big picture.  Not all districts are forgone conclusions so it would be cool if we could get some fans to show us why the think their team can win it all or pull off the upset.

On a cursory overview there are a lot of games on the docket for tomorrow.  Here are some of the match ups that stand out to me.  Please give us your thoughts.  Some I base on records and some on districts and some on what these games mean in the scheme of things.

Page 9-3 vs BGA 9-0 - interesting match up

Webb School 6-1-1 vs FRA 5-3-3 - two teams on the right track

CAK 10-0-2 vs Knox Webb 6-0 - can anyone knock off CAK?

Baylor 10-2 vs MBA 5-1-2 - can MBA end the season as a 1 loss team

Collierville 8-1-3 vs Evangelical Christian 7-1 - state vs private

Hardin Valley 8-1-1 vs Bearden 5-5-1 - You know Bearden will show up for this one.

Cleveland 8-3-2 vs East Ridge 8-3 - match made in heaven

Hendersonville 8-4 vs Wilson Central 3-1-1 - can 1 loss Wilson Central pull the upset?

Brentwood 6-1-2 vs Independence 7-2 - whoa nelly!

As of today there are 17 teams that are still undefeated.  Who has the best chance of remaining that way and why.

I think Murfreesboro Central is the best Rutherford County team this year despite being A/AA. District 7 AAA is having a down year. But they have had a good run for several years qualifying for state. And there is still time for improvement.

The BGA/Page game should be a good one(I predict a 4-1 BGA win).  If BGA can win tonight, it'll set up a clash between two of the states best teams and undefeated teams, BGA/Franklin.

Webb School will easily win against FRA if Webb getg their player back from red card.  I don't think FRA has the horses needed to run with the upper teams in that division.  A Webb player (their top scorer) received a red card for spitting on a BGA player.  He then ran off the feild, kicked a bag of soccer balls, threw down a jacket, and then ran from the bench area towards school but stoopped once a player and coached ran after him....it was not a pretty.

CAK can certainly be beaten.  They played a fairly soft schedule so far and they've tied two teams who are not as strong as in the past.

Baylor is very good.  I predict they'll win over MBA.  Even is Baylor looses, they have the best campus of any hign school in Tennessee, possibly the entire south.

Big game in Franklin tomorrow.  The undefeated Franklin Rebels (8-0) visit the undefeated BGA Wildcats (10-0) in a game to determine bragging rights for Franklin.  Last year was a great game with Franklin scoring late to goal to win 2-1.  Both teams have several players who will be playing college soccer and some really good players who wont.  This years Franklin team looks just as strong, if not stronger, than last years team.  BGA is by far a better team this year than last.  Should be a good game between two teams who have to favorites to win the state championship in their respected divisions.

Next Thursday SGC (7-2-1,4-1) hosts Dyersburg 6-2-1,3-1) for the D-13A-AA 2nd seed and homework in the district tournament. (1 seeds field doesn't meet requirements to host.) the district has had a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 games. This is locked as a district semi (assuming they win first round) there is a slim chance they will play in the best of the west tournament this week

    • From my understanding, Jay Graham pretty much took over HC responsibilities in that game, so you can thank him. Cute Andy didn’t need help, though. Cute Andy could’ve beaten us without any assistant coaches.
    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
