Here is a thought! 8th graders IF they are in the SAME school building as the high school, have the same right to use the gym as anyone. Many single "A" schools have this situation. Here is a good example, many 8th graders, based on the coaches opinion, play on the high school team, while in the 8th grade.

And GCP, odds are the best 8th graders are the ones working out with the high school!! LOL

Best 8th graders? Keayonna Bourne from Farragut is definitely one of the best, maybe the best.
Justice Pearson - Hillcrest/Obion Co
Dymond Smith - South Fulton.
Je'Mya Glenn - 3Oaks/Dyer Co
Shakiya Crumble - Lake Co
Samariah Thompson - Dyersburg

Some of the best I know of.

Sloan Mann and Kursten Hawkins at Moore County. Both started on varsity this year and averaged 15 ppg respectively. They also started 3 others in several games. That is unheard of to start 5 eighth graders on HS level.

With all due respect to those young ladies, district 9A is far from the best... It's actually not good at all. There are only two future NCAA D1 players that are currently in High School in that district and they are Sarah Pierce from Community and Caitlyn Yost from Forrest. The bottom teams in that conference are absolutely awful.

    • Lots of 7th grade redshirttin' going on these days.
    • My favorite game of the 1980'S, that's why I remember it so well.
    • Why would the tax payers be responsible for paying for only a coach? In recent years with all the theft from various programs in schools from different programs with booster clubs (not just sports) the State of TN has made alot of rules surrounding booster clubs and how they handle money.  I have two documents to review, 1 is 40 pages from the state comptroller and the other is 37 pages from my district, so I can consider starting a booster club for my middle school program. It has been too much trouble in the past for the other coaches.  There is no way there needs to be an adult in the school building for 7 hours a day with no responsibilities except coaching.
    • The only thing that was said at half time of the 45-0 game was Coach Story, he said: "I know y'all have been out there a lot, but kick-off team, y'all need to get down there faster!" Then he and the other coaches proceeded to go into the coaches office and we all went nuts!  It was the only time I can ever remember coaches not saying anything at half time. Definitely a great memory!!!
