AllRegion
This was just posted on MurphyFair.com What do you guys think? Call me insane if you want, but I actually believe that Oakland has a decent chance to win a gold ball this year. I almost NEVER bet against Maryville and I think the world of GQ and his program. But even with as strong as Maryville will be this season (returning the entire front seven of a Jimmy Gaylor defense says a lot), I just have a feeling that this could possibly be the year where a Rutherford County team makes it 5-1 Maryville instead of 6-0. I can't argue with Blackman and Whitehaven at #'s 3 and 4. I would put White Station and Dobyns Bennett above Hendersonville, and I'm not quite sure that Siegel will pan out to be a top 10 team yet. I might have Ravenwood or Science Hill in there instead of them. But if their defense has improved from last year they'll probably be a top 10 team for sure. 1. Maryville 2. Oakland 3. Blackman 4. Whitehaven 5. Hendersonville 6. White Station 7. Dobyns Bennett 8. Sevier County 9. Rossview 10. Siegel

Siegel This is the most talented team Oakland has ever or probably will ever field, but until somebody actually knocks off Maryville, I am always going to give the Rebels the benefit of the doubt. Blackman may end up having the best offense in the state this year, big questions is will they be able to keep other teams from scoring? Hendersonville and Sevier County are probably the two most interesting teams on this list. The amount of talent in the Hendersonville program right now is not something they have been used to, they have usually overachieved with what little talent they have had, so it will be interesting if Coach Hatfield can take it to the next level. Sevier County scored a huge pair of transfers with the Wallace brothers. Great QB play can hide alot of faults against most competition, but until their defense gets better, they are going to continue to lose in the 2nd or 3rd round to Maryville I really like the talent on Rossview's roster, but until they beat a team of substance outside of the Clarksville area, it is going to be hard to take them seriously. Barring some major improvements on both sides of the ball, I do not see Siegel being a top 10 team. Ravenwood, Nashville Overton, or Franklin are probably more deserving teams at this point

blazer1set
Dobyns-bennett at #7? Really ??? Several Kingsport posters on this board have all but given the Indians the gold ball for the next few years. There's been a lot posted recently about incoming middle-schoolers, plus a new no-huddle offense, coaching changes.... I'm not saying rank them ahead of Maryville but if these posters are right then 7 is WAYYYYYYY too low.

First of all incoming middle-"schoolers" won't have any impact on this years varsity team. Second: I have been on the DB threads every day and nobody is predicting or talking about this years team being great or anything near great. The closest thing anybody has said to what your referring to is that we "might" be better than we first thought due to the team speed and running the no-huddle offense. Nobody, as of this morning had mentioned anything about being ranked in the top 10. And personally I would not have ranked them in the top 10. I think their a year away from getting back in true form.

Well preseason "polls" are somewhat popularity contests from last year anyway, but if you guys can get thru the first 4 games and be 3-1 or even 4-0 then you certainly deserve a top ten ranking. The biggest test will be SC on 9/12, take down the Smoky Bears and you are well on your way.
