Brentwood went 27-1. Leading scorers included PG James McPherson, SF Grant Teichmann, SG and Jalen Lawson. Seniors PF Tanner Tapp and SG Ryan Hood replace All-Region stalwarts Andy Schumpert and Jacob Adcock in the starting lineup off last season's 32-3 Final Four squad.

Best Win: A 5-point win over CPA and Braxton Blackwell in late May. The Bruins get up early for a 13-point halftime lead, but CPA responds in second half and ties game before Brentwood junior SG Toe Bautista's game-clinching trey in the final minute.

Lone Loss: Lost to Apollo (KY) by 2 in the quarterfinals of WKU team tournament; Apollo went on to win tournament. Bruins had previously beaten Apollo (in OT) earlier in the camp.

Summer Team MVP: senior SG Jalen Lawson has become the heart and soul of Brentwood's competitive edge. In addition to being a competent slasher, Lawson has developed into a lockdown defender and deadeye three-point shooter. (Jalen's nickname is 'Quiet Riot'.)

Most Improved: Senior SG Ryan Hood, who has developed into a reliable, clutch three-point shooter and heady teammate a year after finishing second on the JV in scoring. Won summer battle for fifth starting spot.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but took this opportunity to issue a couple well-deserved shout-outs to our team. Other guys deserve props too but I don't want to bloviate too much here. Our guys work really hard and I'm proud of them.

Lighthouse Christian went undefeated at Belmont and Tennessee Tech's camps. They beat Oak Ridge, Ensworth, BGA, and a long list of others that I can't recall off the top of my head.

The Nappier twins (only 5'10 or 5'9ish) are both playing above the rim now and in my opinion without any doubt they will be one of the most athletic and fastest backcourts in TN this year. They had a transfer in from Ravenwood that will help this year, but Tripp Davis will be their leading scorer again.

Their biggest games this school year will be against Jackson South Side and Dayton Dunbar (Ohio).

I had the chance to watch the twins and another guard for Lighthouse play this past weekend in the Nashville Fall League at CPA.  They are a very impressive group, fun to watch - a great experience for my "incoming freshmen" son playing against them - they were all he talked about on the way home.

You really do not want to know.  Union City is going to be good enough they could win the 1, 2 or even 3 a Championship.  They are going to be that good.  They have everyone basically back and have added one transfer who came from another state and is already getting D 1 attention as a sophomore.

Why doesn't Lighthouse play in the TSSAA?

Hardly anyone at Lighthouse even knows the answer to that question.

I know just a few years ago they strongly considered joining TSSAA. I think there are actually a variety of factors that kept them from making the move, but I don't want to speculate without knowing for sure.

I definitely would've enjoyed seeing them compete on a bigger platform like TSSAA, but unfortunately I don't see that move happening any time in the near future.

Why don't the TSSAA just cancel the season and send the Gold Ball to Union City.
