Classification

The TSSAA decided to reclassify football and it appears changes will be made in the regions. How will it affect basketball? Will they realign the regions and districts to match up with numbers? Like they did when they went to plan Z.

That's a good question. Will they also go ahead and look at the public/private split while they're at it?

As usual the TSSAA doesn't do anything but help football. Then there will be several lame excuses as to why it would never work with the other sports. Look at Alabama, 7 classes across the board this year, up from 6 in all sports from previous years. Their final 48 week of their state basketball tournaments in Birmingham are sold out. But that would just never work here because Alabama is just a better basketball state than Tennessee, PLEASE!!!!

Alabama also plays 6 classes in basketball too.  Will they divide the 6A/5A into AAA, 4A/3A into AA and 2A/1A into A or leave the districts the same as in football like they do now.

I was told that they won't look at a split until 2017.  Is that a fact or just hearsay?

From what I understand, this only effects football for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017.  Then it could change for all sports after that when the 4 year cycle ends.

Four would be great for basketball, baseball softball. There are enough facilities so there would be no need to cut state tournaments to four teams, as has been mentioned as a "warning."
