Clinton at AC 2014 Pre season breakdown:

Since we have not played a snap yet this season the breakdown for week 0 is not going to be quite as in depth as I will try to make it come mid season to playoff time when I have a little more information on our current teams, but here is something to get started for the new season, hope everyone can chime in.

unapproved website Rankings:

National:

AC – 1,045

Clinton – 5,826

State:

AC – 32

Clinton – 60

State 5A:

AC – 8

Clinton – 35

Power Rankings:

AC – 123.84 (41st)

Clinton – 99.35 (182nd)

All Time Series is lead by AC 20-8

Since 2000, AC has led the series 14-1 with Clintons victory coming in 2009 when Clinton defeated AC 35-21 at Clinton to close out the regular season 10-0 and secure home field advantage for the playoffs as undefeated district champs, AC would go on to defeat Clinton in the playoffs that season in a second round upset at Clinton 31-28.  That was one heck of a Dragon Football team and a great game for the Mavericks to pull off the upset in coach Gillums first season as the AC head coach.

AC leads the series 5-1 since Davey has become the head coach with an average margin of Victory being 41-16.  The 2 most lopsided games in the series have both come as victories for AC under Coach Gillum as 40pt margins, with the latest being in 2013 when AC beat Clinton at Clinton 53-13.

Since Coach Gillum has become the AC coach, the mavericks have scored 224pts in 6 meatings with Clinton while giving up 116pts

Since Coming to AC, Coach Gillum has taken the Mavericks to the playoffs an all time best 5 years in a row, this is a feat no other coach has been able to do for AC, 3 of the 5 years the Mavs made it to the State Quarterfinals and have produced both the Schools all time leading Passer in Tanner Williams and Season Rusher in Returning RB Matt Fox.

Coach Gillum is 40-21 as the coach of AC and is 6-5 in the post season.

Since taking the Job of Head Coach for Clinton, Coach Josh Kerr has had seasons of 0-10, 2-8 and 4-6 and the program is showing improvement each season as Kerr is on task to get the Dragons back to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

Head to Head Coach Gillum leads the series 3-0 of Coach Kerr with victories of 53-13, 45-7 and 28-27 for a AC average margin of victory of 42-16 since the 2 ex teammates form AC have faced off against each other.

The 28-27 game in which Clinton almost pulled off the upset, Coach Kerr showed that he had the Clinton program going in the right direction after a very disappointing season without a Victory Clinton still managed to give AC all they wanted in closing out the season in good form, though they went 0-10 that year at the end the players still had fight and that is hard for a coach to get out of a team that is facing an all time worst season in program history.

With returning JR quarterback and Tyler Thackerson leading the way with an improved running game and a year of experience coming of an amazing 2013 season as a sophomore is this the season Clinton ends the losing streak to the Mavericks and starts the season on top of the district, or does a Maverick Team that returns the States leading rusher in Matt Fox with a SR QB at the Helm have the Fire Power to extend the winning streak to 6 in a row for the cross town rivalry.

Though I feel Coach Kerr and offensive coordinator Rodney Ellison have what it takes with a weapon like Thackerson to put up the points, I do feel however that AC has what it takes to dominate this game on the offensive side and control the line of scrimmage, my prediction is a heavy dose of Sr’s Garret Johnson and Bryson Phillips pounding the rock with an offensive line, that much like the University of TN, has a lot to prove this season replacing one of the best lines in AC history.  With the possibility of Matt Fox and Zane Smith being able to break one 60 yards at any moment in this game, I feel AC will be too much for Clintons D to handle this season.  Clinton though will score some points on AC, Clinton should be too good on offense not too, but if AC can just contain them than they should get the win.

My prediction for Friday night:

AC: 42, Clinton: 21
