Bradley Central vs Polk County history

BCHS is 25-8-1 all time vs Polk County. The teams played once in 1917 and the Wildcats won 13-12. They then picked up the series in 1924 and played continuously thru the 1959 season, except for 1928. They then resumed the series for the 1987 and 1988 seasons before taking another hiatus. The series once again resumed in 2009. Whether or not it continues after this season is basically going to be determined by the new re-classification process that the TSSAA will implement in November.

Beginning with the 2014 season, Coach Damon Floyd is now the longest serving Bradley Central football head coach (9 continuous seasons) except for Jimmie Lovell who served 21 seasons from 1917 thru 1938. Yeah, I know that's 22 years but the Bears didn't field a team in 1918 due to WWI. During his 21 seasons at Bradley Central, Coach Lovell was 124-70-15. The football field at the original site of Bradley Central on Ocoee Street, presently home to Ocoee Middle School, was named in his honor as Jimmie Lovell Field in 1940.

In the most recent revival of the series the Bears hold a 3-2 edge. Wildcat Coach Derrick Davis is 94-42 entering his 13th season as the Big Cat. The Wildcats have made the playoffs every year except his 1st season. Coach Floyd is 42-43 and the Bears are looking to make the playoffs for the 5th straight year.

Last season the Bears faced 7 teams that made the 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A playoffs with Cleveland (5A) reaching the semi-finals and Maryville (6A) winning another championship in their classification. The Wildcats faced 8 teams that made the playoffs in 1A, 3A, 4A, and 6A. The Wildcats faced 8 teams with a losing record last season, the Bears 4.

Best of luck to both teams and may they come out of the game without any injuries.

Corky Whitlock, longtime announcer for Bradley Central football, will be honored at Friday's game. You can read his accomplishments in another thread already posted.

GO BEARS!

Polk will have a hard time with this one. Smaller and younger then the last couple of years. But knowing Coach Davis and his staff they will have Polk ready to play and play hard for four quarters. Even though Polk lacks size they will hit and keep hitting. I think they will improve as the season goes on. Tough one against the Bears. Good luck to both teams on a good game and injury free.

I think Polk County comes away winning another close one. It'll be something like 21-17 or 20-17.

Polk will be the forth or fifth best team in their district this yr.They are young and small, the cheifs and Loudon will battle but Polk is not the same Polk this yr.After the Polk-GB scrimmage,GB is a little down and had their way with Polk.

    • Did he promise you a coordinator job or something if he ever got a head coaching job? He resigned? He was at the top of the dugout last night calling plays. I wonder if those 30+ parents would let him give their kids a ride. by the way the board meeting was last night and it was not mentioned. must have been at the work session earlier this week which is not public. must be trying to keep it quiet.  Since you know so much, how much is Robbie Atwood willing to pay Adam Cothron?  Didn't you slander Eden earlier on here? You also didn't know he was a faculty coach again so how much do you really know? Some people outside this county baffle me with their need to slander others.
    • He resigned smh, and have you ever heard of charged but not convicted. Some people in this county baffle me with their need to slander others. Have you asked any of the 30+ parents that signed a petition to get him reinstated at the board meeting this week how they feel about this? Just let it play out, at the end of the day the only people that will bring TC back are the ones that know what its about at its core.    People hate losing and they aren't used to it at TC. I for 1, and I'm sure others too, understand having a dip in talent and not being able to compete for a state title every year. But in the past, TC teams have outworked more talented teams, they didn't continuously lose the turnover battle, they didn't commit 8+ penalties in several games each season, and I believe several of the folks in town that want Blake out feel as if he is neglecting the history of the program. This is from a source that used to be extremely close to the program (not me lol), Blake gets out of school midday and the players show up and there is no practice plan or itinerary.  I also understand those that are on team Blake, when he has loads of talent, he wins. He does know football and he is a tremendous DC, and if the rumors are true then he will do great things. As for the board member issue, it is what it is, everyone that's true to the county know that and nothing has changed. I agree though that they should strive to make the facilities as good as we can. And as far as potential candidates, I agree there is very few options. West, Vetetoe (yes I know), and couple others that could have some interest. Whatever happens is massive for the program during a pivotal time before the next big wave of stars make their way through.
    • McKenzie had no trouble with Huntingdon.
    • Has BA landed any cornfed cowboys to block up front?
    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
