Alcoa @ Maryville

I know kind of weird coming from an OR fan starting this thread, but I always LOVE this game. I know Alcoeee will have played 3 games in approximately 8 days, but I am sure they rested their starters 2nd half vs Smith County and the same will probably happen when they play the Hurricanes of Mo-Town East. Maryville is coming off of a good win against a very good Webb team 28-7. Who takes this one and why? Can Alcoa keep it close this year, unlike last year? I hope both teams stay healthy and may the best team win. Here's to one of the best rivalries this state has to offer! Maryville holds a 59-23 advantage in the history of this matchup. Discuss!

Do you think Alcoa will be moved up when the new TSSAA Football Classifications are out?

I am pretty sure they will move up, but I would say some Alcoa fans can comment on that better than I. How many classes can a team jump? I am not in the know about all of that stuff. I know a school can move up 1 class if other teams move down, but not quite sure on the rest.

The latest rumor from Knoxblogs  had Alcoa in a 2-2A region with Austin East,Oliver Springs,Grace,Rockwood,Sweetwater and Wartburg.

IMO, Alcoa will be much more physical than Webb.

Key points for Alcoa. Keep the offense balanced. The strength of Maryville's defense is the line and LB. Alcoa will not have success running off tackle with out mixing in enough passes and sweeps to the edges. You can not allow Maryville to stack the box.

Alcoa's pass defense has to step up. They can not play soft. Play the WR's tight and throw off the timing of the quick pass. CONTAIN the QB! If he has the option to pickup that quick 3-4 yards and keep the drives moving the chains like past games it will get ugly fast.

Alcoa needs to come into this game focused and TOO HYPED!!! They have the talent, the depth and size to compete. With the right attitude they can beat Maryville this year. If the Alcoa team that showed up several weeks ago and rolled up Farragut in a game like scrimmage shows up.....This will be another "barn burner" to the wire kind off game. If the Alcoa team that showed up at the jamboree shows up next Friday... it will be much like last year's game.

It is time for an F5 tornado at da Skeeter!

Maryville should win of course ... both great programs ... will say 35-14 ... what amazes me is that Alcoa has in the 400 's in enrollment and close to a 100 play football .. unheard of .. thats like Maryville having 400 football players ... but anyway .. Im sure there wont be a seat available at Maryville next Friday night. Thats what makes high school football what it is .... it will be packed and exiting environment Im sure ... would like to go watch but will support my team though.

    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
