I hate seeing AE down like they have been the past few years... when I played we used to battle with AE high school football at its finest. I will say AE will be on their way to recovering it's past they have a good freshmen class with some good middle schoolers about to go to AE. This year AE will be lucky to keep it within 60

Just asking a question, do you think AE is suffering the same problem as Powell?  AE has had a lot of coaching changes themselves since Stanton Stevens left.  As for the game while AE has athletes, Fulton has an advantage with depth, size, speed and coaching.  Fulton by as much as they want.

Absolutely that's a factor in the decline of their program. They have some athletes but it's difficult to build a program when you change coaches every year or two. I sure do miss the rivalry. Me and "turtle" would be at least on page 7 by now on Fulton/AE week! I haven't seen anything from him yet! This was my sister's favorite week. Hope our starters get to play at least half a ballgame and hope it's a safe injury free game for both teams. Go Falcons!

Where's Turtle been?  I haven't seen any of his colorful commentary on AE or West in while. lol

Q I think coaching has something to do but the overall factor in decline IMO is the amount of total students they now have. AE is now around 500 students that's no where near enough to compete with the big teams unless your Alcoa. As far as turtle I talked to him earlier in the week he says he still has faith in AE and the score will be a lot closer than people think. I tried to wager with him but he declined lol.

I think the lack of quality coaching at the youth level hurts as well. I know it's hard to find coaches with a strong background. With you having seen Fulton's youth team, it helps having that coaching. I coached in youth football from 2006-2012 and some of the Roadrunner teams were not well coached  We played them in 2011 and the coach refused to play the second half.  Grant it we were up 42-0 at the half but he said HE had enough, not the kids. He yelled and hollered the whole game and after a while kids just shut that out. I see it in AAU too, after a while you have to coach your kids up. When we played the same team the next year it was closer at the half but the coaches never made adjustments. They had way better athletes then we did but we still won by 4 TD's. Teaching the kids the fundamentals at an early age really helps when they get to high school.  You mean to tell me that Turtle wouldn't take the spread lol.

I tried to give him 40 points lol but youth coaching is a huge factor in high school football. Getting players that can contribute for 4 years is huge for the future of a program.

Greetings!!! Yea I've been MIA but I'm here now hahaha! As for as the game Friday, like I've been saying it won't be as bad as many are saying/thinking! The only thing I'm hearing is 100-0, I know for sure Coach Black wouldn't allow it to get that bad. Just know Fulton hasn't always been on top!!

As for as West Rebels, we have those other Rebs coming to Sutherland tomorrow night so I'm saying West finally beats Maryville

    • When Danny was a senior he was the quarterback on the 82 team and also the placeholder on extra points. At the end of the game Heritage scored a touchdown with very little time left and went ahead 9-0. On the following extra point Danny rose up and threw a perfect pass to one of his receivers which made it 11-0 and Heritage's first win against Maryville since the series started in 77. Maryville fans were highly ticked off because they felt like it was rubbing salt in the wound. The following year when both teams met again at Maryville  the Rebels ran away with the game and after the first couple of touchdowns they went for two points after each score for a pay back and the score was 45-0 at halftime. The following Monday Bob Gilbert the sports eiditor for the local paper bashed Maryville in an article called the Humilation of Teenagers and tore into Maryville even though he was a graduate of the school. Those were the good ole days when Heritage had decent teams and the rivalry between them and Maryville was a fun event to see.
    • I get all that.  And I agree too.  However, if the coach is only there to coach that would give them more time to do those things. The school system and booster clubs combine and pay them.
    • 3 sides to every story….Someone getting kicked off for saying the F word then it seems maybe your star player? Probably was the last straw.
