Mentioned, as in the top 10 or mentioned as in 12 or more points?

Either.  However, they have MTCS, Moore County and Wayne County coming up in a row.  They finish out with Friendship and Forrest. So they have their chance to make a statement or 2.

I agree. They will have an opportunity to make a statement or 2 or 3.

Maybe they'll slide to the western side of the playoff bracket and make an even bigger statement!  lol

There were 18 AP folks involved in the voting, therefore, the 18 first place votes available.

They are Tennessee AP-member sportswriters that were selected. I remember they use to give the names of the voters or at least the papers they wrote for...I don't know why they don't release this information anymore.

Each first place vote is worth 10 points, second place is worth 9 points and all the way down to one point for a tenth place vote.

For Union City not to get all 18 first place votes is one thing, but to have received only 176 total points they were give a second place vote (9 points) AND a fourth place vote (7 points).

OR they were given 2 third place votes (8 points each)

If I were a betting man, I'd say the 2 writers that gave Greenback and Cloudland their first place votes, each gave Union City their third place votes.

If i had a vote, Union City would get my first place vote and I really have no problem with someone from the eastern part of the State giving Greenback a first place vote. But I don't understand Union City receiving a fourth place vote or 2 third place votes.

Thanks for the rundown on how that all works.  I'm sure those folks that vote have more important things to do than watch a bunch of games on tape, but you are absolutely right that UC receiving 3rd and 4th place votes is a little fishy.

No problem. I understand they can't watch or view every game in detail, but they need to take a little more pride in their pole they put out there!  Ain't that right Roy!!! lol

I think that the polls shouldn't come out til at least week 5. But then what would us old heads have to get riled up about?

I totally agree.Whats funny is there will be the best from the West and the best from the East at the end the rest of the numbers dont even matter.I do think NC is the best behind UC but that wont matter because only one team from the West will represent. So funny how people react to a poll.As one said earlier it will change drastically in a few weeks.UC wasnt even in it this time last yr.

What kind of mess is this rlh?  What is this AP poll?  Is that some kind of app you get off one of those durn smart phones?  This mess has nothing to do with football if you are getting it from that app store.  You need to look at Murphys pole.  You think im joking but im not.

    • Lee would have been a good choice, also.  I'm sure Benny was involved with the decision.
    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
