Are these more or less accurate the the other polls out there? I think it based upon win/losses and heavily on strength of schedule. I'm sure others items are taken into consideration. As others have said, it gets more accurate as the season moves along. First number is state wide ranking among all classes. Last number is team power ranking. Supposedly you can subtract one teams PR from another's teams PR the add 2 points for home team to get point margin of victory if the played????

I don't understand how a 1-3 sp team is ahead of a 3-1 WC team that has played two 1a schools a 2a school and their only loss was to a 3a school which WC played missing 4 starters on defense and three on offense and still only lost by four points. If WC had not turned the ball over inside the ten yard line I feel they would have won it. And I'm not bashing sp, they don't do the rankings and are a very respected team.

LOL - I'm guessing the computers don't take only WC 's 'missing starters' & your opinion on what might have happened if WC hadn't fumbled into consideration. It just uses the final scores.

To the earlier question, I generally find this poll gets more and more accurate as the season progresses, and I do thinks it's better than the AP poll. They are all just discussion starters, but I do pay more attention to the Sonny Moore rankings than AP.

I know they don't take that stuff in but look at the overall record. 1-3 is not a top 5 team.

Thats one of the reasons it get more accurate as the season goes by.SP played in the championship last year and finishes high on a regular basis. If SP don't pick it up in a hurry, they will start slipping pretty fast. You look at this thing come playoff time and it will be really accurate. It can't account for some very strong teams who let the JV's play half the game and it don't know anything about injuries. The only thing it looks at are scores and who you won or lost to. If you let a weak team score on you're reserves,it don't know the difference. But after 10 games ,it catches up pretty good.

Evidently it is... according to the computer program. What if same SP team had played 3 cupcakes & was 3-1? The computers consider strength of schedule. The great thing is that computers don't pick the state champ.

When you play weak teams,it hurts more than it helps, most schools let up and the score is not nearly what it could have been. The computer looks at the score and shakes it head.

By time it gets to the playoffs most people know who the best teams are

I agree to a point but you can tell alot more about the entire field. I'm not having any problem knowing who the very strongest teams are right now. Union City,1a, TCA 2a, Alcoa 3a' Fulton 4a, KnoxWest 5a. Muryville. Some of the classes has some comp, others are pretty cut and dried.

    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
    • Word is Jason Maxwell will be new AD - he is currently head baseball coach. Also heard Roc might be headed to Pope as an assistant coach.
    • you must not know how tssaa operates lol
    • I agree. A lot more people are starting to see what is really going on around here and how a certain few board members are abusing their power. Eyes are starting to open.
