This particular thread is for DII only.

Once again I, and other media members, need your recommendations for Mr. Football lineman and back from each classification as well as kicker from all classes. As always, positive recommendations are expected and negative comments should be avoided. We want to know you want, not who you do not want.

Here are the instructions I received today:

---------------

For the eighth consecutive year, the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards are being underwritten  by a generous grant from the Tennessee Titans Foundation. The TSSAA is very appreciative of the generosity of the Titans’ organization for their financial support of these awards and for its wide-ranging support of student-athletes across our state.

Thirty-three finalists will again be honored at this year’s awards luncheon. This group is to include three finalists for Mr. Football Lineman of the Year and three finalists for Mr. Football Back of the Year in each classification (Class A, AA, and AAA in Division I and Class A and AA in Division II). There will be three finalists, regardless of classification, for the Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award. They are to be selected via a vote of football coaches and selected members of the media. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. Football trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

These outstanding individuals and their schools are to be recognized along with their parents and coaches at the prestigious Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Luncheon, scheduled Monday, December 1 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Murfreesboro.

Each of the designated media outlets, of which you are one, is asked to submit the name of up to three players in each classification for the Mr. Football Lineman of the Year Award and the Mr. Football Back of the Year Award. You are also asked to submit three players, regardless of classification, for the Mr.

Football Kicker of the Year award. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. If you feel an individual player is one of the top three players in both categories, then you may list him in both.

In order for your ballot to be counted, it must be submitted no later than FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31. Please help honor Tennessee’s finest by responding today.

Sorry but FCSs kids are good HS players but not the calibar of Mr Football.

The LB from Webb will win one in a landslide but the other has a few more choices.

I'm going to grab some popcorn and an ice cold Coca-Cola.  Then I'll pull up a chair and watch this quality entertainment when the FCS folks get on here.  Should be some solid comments posted. Game on.

Hopefully it will be a reasonable discussion. I believe all non FCS folks would agree that those kids are good HS football players but not Mr Football winners. Mr Football winners are always considered the absolute dominate players in that division. Doesn't mean they can't be mentioned but there are more deserving kids.

Can I have some popcorn too? It should be fun reading the usual stuff posted by some of these folks. BTW Doyle what's your opinion? Have you seen the Webb kid play?

I am not a FCS person, however I have seen them play and every D-2 AA lineman and I can say you are lost on this commit and I can tell you that Mississippi State, the number one team in the country, thinks your wrong too.  Along with around 20 other D-I programs.

Well, it's great that you speak for MS State and 20 other D1 programs. Did they specifically talk about both those players? That would be kinda odd but ok?

I can tell you that Webb without Mitchell isn't as good while IMO FCS wouldn't be nearly as hurt without your guy. Both are good players and deserve heaps of praise but one is clearly a dominate player in Div IIA.

    • As I said somewhere earlier in the thread, the original plans had no outdoor athletic facilities being part of the campus.  The original plan was for HVA to use facilities at nearby schools.  Very late in the process they came up with a plan and found budget to have minimal facilities and crammed them in to space that never was intended for athletic facilities.
    • Agreed, the way the field is turned you get the evening sun blasting right into the press box making filming a nightmare there, plus its so low.  The field is land locked and parking is a nightmare too. Seems like Knox County could have done a lot better there with the design and the quality.
    • I think this upcoming team may be pretty good, they will definately be better up front and if they can replace Dozier, Heyward and Rembert, they can be real good. They have the same strange schedule, but this time with 5 straight home games. The road games at Jeff County, Powell will be tough to open up with and the back side at Bearden is the tough game there.  One question I had if anyone knows: There has been some talk of an indoor practice facility in the past, with the new track area now more of a track area, that kind of leaves a need for a football practice area. Just sayin....
    • I find it hard to believe that 70% of a schools enrollment is zoned for another school district
    • I was told that the indoor facility is happening regardless of the vote on the taxes but it would be a much bigger project with more funds if they vote goes through
