How to play a seed game

Tennessee high school baseball coaches should properly teach these basketball coaches how to lose a seed game without it looking like you're trying to lose.  Like the Wednesday Region Finals.  Best chance to catch a game between a couple of #4's that didn't throw a district inning all year.

I'm not sure I understand trying to lose the Wed regional game. If you lose, you are probably going to play the number 1 from the other region and face their ace. If a team makes it that far, either of the teams they play on Friday will have a good ace. And since they play at the same time from both districts, you don't know what the other teams results. Only 2 teams make it out of district around here to get to regions.

You don't "try" to lose the Wednesday game, you simply save your #2 and #3 arms for Friday when it is elimination time.... All the bullets in the gun so to say. Since the format went to 8 teams, most would agree this is good strategy. Wednesday games were intense back in the Final Four state tournament era.

Right.  You play to win but you throw 'off' or save innings and pitch counts by splitting them up in the Wednesday game.  It's a sound strategy in a post season setup where a stud #1 can get you into the state tournament.  He wins Monday and  Friday and you're in.  Wednesday is insignificant except for seeding if you've got one of those #1's.

    • Began as a discussion, and evolved into a trainwreck...   Don't know how many of the TC "old guard" are left, but I feel for y'all.   Everybody has to get the last word... no matter the cost and sometimes the cost is high.
    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
    • Danny Wilson is the only one that come's to mind but I don't know where he is at now.
    • I am pro coach all day long but there are some knucklehead hires for sure.
