Enough of the CPA talk...They are NOT a SUPER team

Let me say this, do I believe CPA recruits? Absolutely! Public schools do as well. CPA has two titles. It's not like they've been dominant. CPA has one stud a rising point guard and a bunch of mediocre players. 7 of the last 11 state titles for AA, has come from the old district 12 AA and current 14 AA. And tonight I believe 15AA will capture the crown. Now there is talk about adding an extra class to basketball. Smh! Here we go with that every kid is a winner crap. Adding a extra class would do nothing but water down the tournament. Sometimes we just need to accept....some kids are just not good enough....period. You can't be good at everything. I never believed in Creekwood etc. To be the man, you have to beat the man. We didn't have classifications in Indiana, but I never heard anyone crying. CPA is nothing more than the Rick Insel invitational all over again. He recruited for Shelbyville for years. Do I believe TSSAA knows.....YES! Do I believe they want to catch it..... NO. Marryville and Alcoa football, has heard this for years. Suck it up and play. The CPA situation is deeper than basketball for me. The kids that are older.....Does Drew Maddux care about the kid? My perception is no. He exploits the kid for the betterment of him. I have absolutely no respect for that. This current format is going to be around at least, 2 more years. Live with and play ball.

I respect the openness and boldness based on your belief of the situation.  I believe in the past you have stated you have a close friend who was close to the Lindsey family.  I don't think those who disagree are not "sucking it up and playing," but simply expressing their dissatisfaction as well.  We know the coaches and players do and will continue to do so, whether change comes or not.  And yes, for me deeper too.

Obviously it is enough because every thread about the Holy ones gets moved or locked. There supporters have showed their true colors by not congratulating Haywood but would be on here beating their chest talking about how great they are if they won. Congrats to Haywood but I want the ball to go East!

I will say this I was sitting around quite a few CPA fans and after the game I guess they thought I was from Haywood and were telling me congratulations and good luck tomorrow so not all there fans are bad

With CPA's great coach and system it is easy to determine the reason.  They have to have 2-3 Division I college type players to get to state and need at least 4 to win it.  I don't know how inferior coaches and teams that do not work as hard have been able to do it with less.

I think they get too much credit for all this talent....if you go back to Maddux first teams that got attention...the big guy who went to Ole Miss to play football Zeke something was the only DI player they had....when jalen lindsey was there he was really good, but he is not a UK type player he averaged 3PPG at providence after finishing at Oak Hill as a senior. ....Black is a legit player, who will probably be a better college player than Lindsey.....braxton bonds is a good player who made himself into one....he didn't just go out there and wow with pure athleticism.....bradshaw is a good ovc player but again everyone acts like they are UK or something....look at the team outside of Black and the 8th grader and the rest of the team is much more role players, not like this team is 8 deep with incredible athletes....there have been mitchell teams with a ton more talent and athletes in a given year at the tourney....i don't root for CPA, in fact i ususally root for underdogs....i'm not a cpa apologist but i think people get way too worked up about them.....do they get kids to go there because of basketball or football that wouldnt' necessarily otherwise?  yes....i think what makes them really good is they have talent but they also play hard and disciplined most of the time.....this year's team was not unbeatable, obviously they were beaten.....i just believe a lot of people buy into the fact that they can't be beaten before they play them.....there have been a bunch of tn teams in the last 20 years that had more talent than them, especially this years team which was a 2 man team in a lot of ways and one of those was an 8th grader....watch memphis hamilton and some of these people constantly complaining should want to outlaw brothers playing on the same team....since the brothers are both top 100 players

Not in comparison to their competition, especially in Mid TN.  How many other teams can you name who had as many players play DI basketball during this time?  Z Mason left Ole Miss to play at UT-Chattanooga, tore it up his senior year and is playing professionally overseas, Hunter Miller played in Atlantic Sun, Craig Bradshaw if not the best, certainly one of the best Belmont players, Jalen Lindsey is playing significant minutes as a freshman on a 20 win Providence team, Jake Allsmiller the same at Sun Belt GA Southern and Bonds left Liberty, where he signed, but was projected to be a key player as a freshman and we will see what he does at UT.  Blackewell is a high major prospect and Campell has high major offers already. Agree, they did not have the talent of their past recent teams, but compare it to the majority of other HS teams and they are definitely towards the very top of the food chain.

Agree 100% with Bluemist. The CPA team I watched yesterday was not an AAU team. Outside of Blackwell and the 8th Grader who else would have been in Haywood's top 8 rotation? Those teams play again and Haywood wins again. Bigger, better athletes and more depth.

That is the point. Every good player mentioned are transfers. Of course they are not as good outside of those two. When Bradshaw transfered to CPA he was allowed to play without sitting out because it is a private school. Privates play by a different set of rules. Zoned public schools aren't granted that luxury & that is why they cry foul! If CPA only played homegrown talent then we wouldn't even know they exist. Even if they dont win state, they still knocked someone else (with a different set of rules) out of the opportunity.

Yes this year, though the AAU reference will stick as long as their best player's are transfers as it has been over last 5 years or so.  I guarantee you the Howell kid would be in anybody's top 8 and if he would have committed to basketball training as opposed to becoming a top football lineman, he would have been an outstanding HS basketball player.

just saying most of the complaining is coming from teams who can't compete with CPA and they can't compete with the top tier schools from the East or West either.....Then there is Coach Brooks, who I thought was a really good coach, but really diminishes himself obsessing over CPA, let it go, you will have more peace I'm sure....

if you remove the privates, these same schools that can't beat CPA will be complaining constantly about all the open transfer schools out there.....if you watched games today you will notice the Memphis teams are fairly loaded with talent....i think all the complaining is from the "wussification" of society and the "everyone gets a trophy" stuff they teach at schools....Tennessee sports championships are watered down to begin with...KY schools have 1 class at the state tourney.....

I'm glad CPA lost and i'm going to enjoy the game with Haywood and Fulton and believe the answer to CPA is to do what Haywood did, go out and beat them....

    • QUICK UPDATE -  First, I see a lot of wrestling names that I recognize on that GoFundMe.  THANK YOU so much for helping this family.   After the long surgery on Sunday morning to repair his neck, Jacob suffered a collapsed lung.  Sometimes this happens after long surgeries.  They had to put him on a ventilator to get his breathing back on track.  He came off the vent on Monday morning and they put a BIPAP on him to help control his breathing.  As of today, Thursday, the BIPAP came off and he is breathing well on his own.  He is working towards drinking a glass of water and hopefully eating some solid food at some point in the near future. Jacob can "feel" when someone touches his legs, but there is still no movement.  His parents are beginning to prepare for him to be moved to the Shepherd Center in the next few days.  He will be there in Atlanta for 30-45 days.  Im sure he will receive excellent treatment. Please continue to pray for healing for him and if you are so moved, please contribute to the gofundme link above to help in any way you can.  The go fund me is doing well, but this is going to be a very long road for these guys Im afraid.. Thanks again! Sells
