My name is Coach Cash and I work at Waverly Central High School as the Head Baseball Coach. The phone number is (931)296-3911. I would love for secondtoone to call me to set up a meeting at the school to discuss POLITICS. I will be awaiting your call & CAN'T WAIT TO BE ENLIGHTED. There are always people who say they support their programs & kids, but YOU are obviously AGAINST US. There is NO IN BETWEEN. Come out from behind the curtain & TALK TO ME. We have good kids, don't be the negative to break UNITY!!! Have some CLASS & do it the RIGHT WAY if you are really that concerned about the KIDS. I'LL WAIT ON YOUR CALL. Signed FAIR......

What secondtone did was wrong but Coach Cash was not much better when he allowed his emotions to get the best of him and respond to secondtone. When you are a public figure like a coach you must swallow your tongue and not say anything even though you would like to strangle someone.

So replying to something you are being accused of and asking for the individual to come forward and speak directly to you about their complaint is letting your emotions get the best of you?  Hmm it would seem to me you believe that individuals should be allowed to take highly critical shots at coaches with no accountability for their actions.  All Coach did was ask the person to meet with him.  Seems to me that is the honorable way to handle matters.  Speaking to him here is the only means of communications available since secondtoone does not include his real name.

What secondtoone did was what most people on the 'T do at some point...get on here and vent. It was wrong to call someone out, I'll agree. What Coach Cash did was the most honorable thing available for him to do, given his information (or lack of) about who had criticized him. He should not be obligated to maintain his silence while being accused, and did no wrong in offering to meet in a peaceful manner to defend himself of those accusations and explain his choices. Coaches and teachers are under a microscope, they are expected to always look and act in a professional manner, even when they aren't "at work", while the general public is free to take verbal potshots at their character, mannerisms, appearance, lifestyle, ect...Why can't we give our coaches the benefit of running their programs as they see fit...they alone answer to the administrators for their actions, win/loss records, and behavior toward the students, their parents, and the fans.

Coach Cash may have felt the desire to respond but it was not the best decision. Responding on the Internet or social media to a personal attack is not the appropriate response. As a coach and teacher you are representative of the school district and should hold yourself to a higher standard. If I or you publicly responded to an Internet "complaint" about our employer or the decisions of our employer, then there is a high probability that we would be unemployed. This is not any different.

Sorry, but we have different perspectives.Should Coach Cash not have responded, that would have been a good decision...I believe that he (or any other representative of a school) has the right to respond to a public accusation should he choose to do so, as long as it is in a respectful manner. Mr. Cash said nothing to embarrass himself, his team, or his school in his reply...on the contrary, when someone is publicly accused of wrongdoing and avoids the issue, most assume that there is merit in the accusation.

I am amazed at the number of coaches who had rather play favorites than actually win games.  :D

I love how the dad of a left hander thinks because he was a great shortstop in coach-pitch he should play in the infield in high school.

My experience in high school athletics is coaches play the players they feel give them the best chance to win, rewarding players who work hard to get better along the way,   Only 9 can be in a baseball lineup at a time and high school sports is not rec ball.

you are all right in your own ways. i should not have been disrespectful to the coach or the team and i APOLOGIZE for doing that. i guess i was just worked up a little after watching the first couple of games. there is a great bunch of kids on this team. good luck and go tigers. sometimes i just need my eyes opened a little and need to be put in my place.

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
