I done a lot of thinking about this one and here is what I come up with. Fulton did lose a lot of starters last year but they also beat the living crap out of almost every team they played last year and kelp on pouring the heat on with the second and third teams which will be the starters this year. One big key is that they have the speed to burn which Maryville doesn't have. One other key to this game for Fulton is that Maryville has normally started off slow at the very first of the year and progressively gets better as the season goes on. The 2013 team would be one of the exceptions to this but in the past this has always been the norm. Maryville loses almost the entire offensive line which has to be rebuilt including a star tight end. This alone with the fact that there will be some growing pains at QB which most people are going to have to see and deal with this season that are expecting big things and big expectations on kids from hearsay from people that don't know beans about football period but loves to talk tall tails.. Maryville loses two key defensive linemen that were the big reasons they won both the Oakland and Championship game no doubt. When Maryville lost Koons during the championship game the other team ran through them like a knife through hot butter until he returned .Even though most of the defense returns which will be good for the Rebels Jackson and Koons will be very hard to replace for a while. As I said earlier the Rebels have been known to start out slow and for Fulton to have any chance at all to win would be very early in the season playing Maryville on TV and taking advantage of all the long commercial timeouts which would even out the Rebels advantage of depth the same way Alcoa won two years in a row. Having seen this situation before with Alcoa in the past I believe this may be a much better game than some are thinking.

Koons and Jackson were special players and it will be hard to fill their roles on the D-Line but I'm sure Gaylor and crew will coach up the young Rebels to step in to that great Maryville defense. And as far as QB goes, the young sophomore stepped in for Vaught and took the Rebels all the way to a State Championship. I heard remarkable things about the Hopkins kid as well. I think Coach Hunt is set at QB for several seasons to come.

Like I said in my post the people that are carrying these expectations are people that have HEARD not seen but HEARD. Lot of pressure on a sophomore that doesn't have any varsity experience. He will come along just great in time but we have to take his name off the ballot for NFL Hall of Fame at least until he is eligible. The other kid has highs and lows and is a very gifted athlete and got some real good experience playing this year but remember the teams he started against couldn't win their way out of a wet paper bag. The highs are always looked on but the lows such as the interception against Oakland almost changed that game around and you didn't see him in again after that. Not taking anything away but the line will be going through a big rebuilding process with new people at QB.

Well I guess I am guilty of going by what I've heard and the few times I saw Maryville on tv. But it seems like every year that Maryville has a QB graduate Coach Quarles and Coach Hunt have the young bucks ready.

One of the good things that in the past few years Maryville has had a senior QB with lots of playing experience from the past year. This year it will be a junior with experience from the year before. You have to remember Maryville runs a very fast pace offense like Oregon and it takes time to learn that system for a young kid. some of the lows I mentioned earlier regarding the junior was not being on the same page as the rest of the team which you would expect with someone that was just thrown in the game but overall they did do very well considering. My only concern about that this year will be how long it will take the new line to jell and how will these QB's react if it takes a while.
