kwc
He is looking at other positions. Our new head coach is Andre Turner. Galilee: I saw AT on the bench while streaming the playoff games. I know that AT has the pedigree as a player. During his playing days he lead Memphis state to the NCAA every year, making it to the final four his senior year. He then played in the NBA for several years before going overseas to play and have a very successuful career. Andre Turner's Wikipedia Page He comes in with instant credibility. He's a Mitchell grad. He's a hometown, Mitchell product coming home to his alma mata. He's beloved not only by the Mitchell Alum ... but by those of use who remember his collegiate career. Look in the dictionary for a win-win definition and this situation should pop up. Mitchell should/will be as competitive as previous years. I'm loving this! Todd Day at Hamilton and now Andre Tuner at Mitchell with Team Penney (Penny Hardaway) and Team Thad (current NBA player Thaddeus Young's people - Memphis Mitchell grad) running the elite AAU teams. Man .... it's intense in Memphis when it comes to basketball! Edited April 16, 2015 by kwc
Intense
Absolutely loved Andre Turner when he played at Memphis State. He will do well at Mitchell. I spoke with him for about 10 minutes during regional tournament at TCA and he is definitely first class! Wish him well!

kwc
From the Commercial Appeal Preps Central, Whitehavan get Coaches By John Varlas varlas@commercialappeal.com 901-529-2350 High school basketball in 16-AAA will be as interesting as ever next season, thanks to a pair of coaching moves Monday. Faragi Phillips, who coached Mitchell to its second consecutive Class A state title in March, will be the new head coach at Whitehaven, replacing Lawrence Myers. Phillips inherited a Mitchell program that had won a combined seven games in the two seasons before his arrival and turned it into an immediate winner. The Tigers finished as AA state runnersup in 2012 and reached the quarterfinals the next year before dropping down to Class A. “The pieces are there to have great success and sustainability,†Phillips said. “(Whitehaven principal) Dr. (Vincent) Hunter said all the right things. Winning means something to him ... (and) I’m coming in to win right away. “The main thing is to build a foundation, first and foremost my ability to lean on the Lord. And we have to have committed parents and selfless players who are willing to put themselves on the backburner and lift up everyone else in front of them.†Central's Principal, Greg Mc-Cullough said John Anderson will coach the Warriors next season. He comes to Central after spending the last six seasons at Overton, a fellow 16-AAA school, and replaces Ricardo Patton. “He had great success at Hillcrest and he was an assistant under coach Patton when he was at Colorado,†McCullough said. “And he’s done well at Overton; his success speaks for itself. And he’s a high-character guy, which is something that we had to have.†Anderson coached Overton to a 22-10 record this past season, losing to East in the semifinals of the region tournament. His 343 victories rank fifth in the area among active coaches. Edited May 12, 2015 by kwc
Galilee
KWC Whitehaven is getting an outstanding coach and person who will bring class and discipine to your program. Mitchell was truly blessed to have Coach Philips pass our way. I will root for you all except when you play Mitchell.
kwc
Galilee: I've taken notice to what he accomplished for his short stintat MItchell. I watched him operate while streaming the 2015 TSSAA playoffsand championship game. He's an excellent coach with outstanding credentials. I'm glad he's still in Black and Gold, and I'm glad he is still a Tiger. Edited May 15, 2015 by kwc
