High school football fans eager for the season to begin will have their chance to see players in full pads and almost 100 percent game format on the weekend of Aug. 14-15 in Columbia.

The annual Columbia Central Jamboree will be three halves of action with six schools on Friday, Aug. 14, in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The inaugural Region 4A Mid-State Jamboree will be hosted by Columbia Academy and include the nine schools in the newly assigned region.

Also, both Spring Hill (Forrest High) and Summit (Rutherford County) are set for Jamboree action on Aug. 14.

The schedule for the Central Jamboree matches Loretto with Middle Tennessee Christian, followed by Lawrence County against Dickson County. The final half pits Lipscomb Academy against Columbia Central.

There will be three halves of action, then three quarters of play in the Region 4A Mid-State Jamboree.

It starts with Cornersville meeting Richland at 5 p.m. followed by Fayetteville versus Grace Christian at 5:45 p.m., then Huntland against Columbia Academy at 6:30 p.m.

These halves will be followed by a round robin on one quarter match-ups starting with Mt. Pleasant clashing with Moore County at 7:15 p.m. At 7:45 p.m., Moore County and Summertown vie, followed by Mt. Pleasant meeting Summertown at 8:15 p.m.

Spring Hill’s time and opponent for the 5:30 p.m. Jamboree at “The Rock†had not been finalized as of Thursday.

Summitt’s foe will be Murfreesboro Siegel at 8 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Rutherford County Jamboree.

While jamboree action is still virtually a month away, most prep teams are having conditioning drills for all players plus some 7-on-7 competition for the skilled position players.

Schools can start practice in helmets and shoulder pads on Monday, July 20, and can have their first day in pads on Monday, July 27.

The TSSAA again has 11 weeks of Friday night regular season games, but the initial week (Aug. 21) is now Week 1, not Week Zero.

— Spring Hill’s home clash with Page on Sept. 3 will be a “Thursday Night Lights†TV game.

— 7-on-7 action for more local teams are played on Tuesdays and Thursday. For some, sites rotate to different locations.

Anxious to see how Summertown does these first few seasons.

I've had a cousin going to quite a few of their MS games and he said he thinks the Eagles will win more than what other folks they will. Got some athletes. Good RB and a QB with an arm and good mobility.

I will be at CA at 5pm at this Jamboree for 3 hrs getting a look at all our new Region opponents.... Some I've never watched play and others I've not seen in years.
