TSSAA Proposal Changes?

I glanced at the article just a few minutes and saw the TSSAA was voting on several items. One was the private /public debate. From what I'm reading some public schools that are collecting out of county tuition could be moved to Division 2.They can stay Division ! as long as a parent or family member pays the tuition. So,I dont see how that is going to do much. Some schools will just have a bosster etc pay the tuition. What if a school like Dyersburg or Dyer Co doesnt charge a tuition for out of county students.?Not going to change anything. But what may help if I'm reading things directly is if a student ,after his 7 th grade year ,if he goes outside the county to anoter county school, will have to sit out his freshman year if he/she decides to go to a school outside their zone. That could help the smaller schools a great deal. Some may still go,thinking they won't probably play much at a bigger school their freshman year. But some of the athlethes may stay at the smaller school knowing they will play at lot or even start.I hope it gets voted in,if that's what I'm reading.

3. Proposed Addition to Article I, Section 3 (Membership):

For tournament competition there shall be two categories. Division I shall be schools whose student - athletes competing at the varsity level do not receive need - based financial aid. Division II shall be those schools whose student-athletes competing at the varsity level may be the recipients of need-based financial aid, and any other school that chooses to participate in Division II. Any school with a financial assistance program involving student-athletes and/or their immediate family must be classified as a Division II school.

Sounds as if they will consider bringing back everyone for the regular season. That will be a huge step.

But am I reading it right that if a student is at a school to where he'she is zoned and they want to go out of county, will have to sit out their freshman year wheras now they can go anywhere in the state if they can drive there. That would help the smaller schools a great deal.Still may lose some  but a lot of kids will not want to sit out.I hope this passes. We have about 8 going to Dyer Co and 3 at Dyersburg that I know of.And I don't think any of them has had to pay a tuition charge

Looks like the voting will be today. It also looks like they are going to vote that if a school has an open gym like dyer Co does, and a Lake co student attends the open gym,he/she would be ineligible at attending Dyer co.Unless a move is made.Looks like a step in the right direction if passed.Happening way too much .Also voting on will be zoning rules. We'll see how things shape up

Some probably wouldnt care to sit out freshman year. Practice, lift, play JV and be ready as a sophomore since most freshmen arent big contributors anyway.

Not so sure.A lot of kids know they will start and play at the smaller schools.Pay for that round trip in gas and sit out may not be on their mind.Right now the bigger schools are having open gym and their players are telling these kids that yall are the missing pieces.Dyer Co has gotten kids from Halls,Lake Co,Crockett Co.Probably cost Lake Co a couple state championships. Some may still go but some may not.

    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
    • It’s not hearsay, just patently false. As one of those young coaches he apparently “ran off”, coach never once ridiculed or degraded anyone. Sure he challenged kids and coached them very hard,  but we have different definitions of you call that degrading. Coach Hammontree changed my life when he gave me the chance to work for him. I learned more about being a man and caring for the people around me in 4 years working for him than I did in 20 years of my life. No one sacrificed more than he did. I left Heritage because I felt there would never be the support necessary to help the program succeed. I’m tired of hearing people drag others down especially those they truly don’t know. Coach has moved on and a new coach is there. Just let the man live and root for the team.
