LIPSCOMB

With both coaches stepping down, and a possible move to DII-AA, who are the coaches on the wish list for Roller? The religious aspect will play a factor in this. Here are a few that may or may not be interested and some who LIPSCOMB would be crazy not to approach.

1. John Pierce - Obvious choice here, DLU guy who has a great resume and has DII experience. Not sure if he would be interested but would definitely make him say no.

2. The Starks Family - The boys and girls coach from Harding Academy out of Memphis would fill both openings. Great resumes with multiple state championships. Another one I would make say no if Pierce is off the table.

3. Adam Sonn - Great resume with multiple State tournament appearances in DII. Plus you would be taking a coach from your oldest rival who holds several victories over you. Not sure if there would be interest but make him say no.

4.Will Mantlo - This guy would jump at the chance to coach. Played for both HS and college. Has to be on list.

5. Pete Froedden - Meyer guy, very intense, good coach. I think would listen to an offer.

I'm sure there will be some outside interest as well. Let me know your thoughts and any names I might be missing!

Roller is a great man and teacher of the game, and very well respected. I am just not sure most of these guys would even have an interest in Lipscomb.  It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

This job does not have the allure it once did. The school does not get the athletes it used to either. That being said.

#1 Pierce- would be lateral move for him. They will either be in the same division or LA will be handcuffed with D1 rules changes. He has more talent where he is.Purely a preference move for JP.

#2 Starks family. I can guarantee you that there will be two different hires for each program. They are looking for someone to run the entire basketball program for each from early grades on up. Impossible to do both programs.

#3 Adam Sonn. See #1. Same response

#4 Will Mantlo. Does he coach anywhere now? Can't see them hiring with no experience.

#5 Pete Froedden. I would be shocked. Leave it at that.

#6 Troy Allen. Not sure he would be willing to throw away his state pension at this point in the game by leaving public schools.

What about Mike's son? Isn't he already on staff? Nepotism has always been around.

The Starks family is a husband & wife combo out of Harding Academy.  He is the boys coach as well as the AD and she is the girls coach. Not sure if they both have state titles but I know the boys team has won a few and she was a Ms. Basketball and College player.  They could fill both the positions if interested.

Mantlo is currently coaching at Harpeth, Lipscomb guy with HC experience.  Not saying he would be at the top of the list but I would say he probably is very interested in the position and fits all of the requirements.

I agree it would be hard for Allen but you never know what type of package Lipscomb would throw at him.

I believe the PickettCo coach played at Freed and is Church of Christ.  He might be another one that could show some interest.

If they moved to DII, I believe that Lipscomb would be DII-AA due to the number of students.

They would get slaughtered in DII-AA. They will never, ever have the kind of program that could/would compete there. The LU president has already tried to close the campus school and now wants it moved completely off the current campus to expand the college. No way they spend the money necessary to run with the big dogs.

Missling Link2

Maddux is not COC.

Ramsey is out also. For the same reason he was out at Ezell Harding.

Don't see Edwards ever coaching high school again. I think he likes his workload now as a middle school A.D.

I'm not sure who the best coach would be for Lipscomb, but it is past time for a replacement. Not sure why it took so much time to make a change. Current coach only had one decent team (2011-2012 team that advanced to sectionals) and 3 losing seasons out of 6 seasons. My Lipscomb friends say that the players who left the basketball program or sat on the bench or never came out for basketball due to the coach would have produced better squads than the teams Lipscomb produced over that period.

They should not limit their search to coaches with a Church of Christ background and instead go out and simply find the best coach. It would be great to elevate the program again to compete with CPA especially if CPA decides to continue to not recruit their AAU all star players (apparently the case this year), or if both schools go to Division II. The Lipscomb/CPA rivalry was the best high school basketball atmosphere in the area and it would be great for both programs to resume it if both programs are conducted on a level playing field.

Just remember he was there, got out for a few years, and was asked to get back in. Sights have been set pretty low for awhile.

The COC requirement is 100 years old. I don't see that changing nor should it. Their business, their rules.

This will be harder to fill with a "name" than most outsiders realize. Coach Meyer has been gone from the campus for a long time and so have his "disciples". It is a different time now in many ways.

Still would not be surprised to see one of the old guard come back (or the son of one).

    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
    • Shopping? His family is loaded and he's 6'6 I'm pretty sure he could start anywhere in upper East TN,So no need to shop. Word is Witten got caught trying to work him out on campus and some 7 on 7 while playing athletics for Sullivan East. Word got around pretty quick and Someone turned them into TSSAA.
    • Quick update on Jacob -  Jacob celebrated his 16th birthday at Vanderbilt on Tuesday and has been in decent spirits.  His sense of humor has begun to show as he was visited by many friends.  He is swallowing a lot better now and has eaten some of his favorites (Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys).   He is getting prepared to head to Atlanta to the Shepherd Center first thing tomorrow morning.  His family has been waiting on insurance approval. In case you dont know the Shepherd Center it a world class facility and supposedly one of the best in the country for spinal injury rehab.  Praying for perfect results there. Considering the circumstances, Jacob is in decent spirits.  He has some reflexive movement in his legs which I think is probably a very positive sign.  Don't read too much into that just yet as there is no telling what the real prognosis is... just hopeful that is good thing.  I am really just happy that it seems like he has a punchers chance of getting something back.  He is a strong young man and very determined so I think he will fight as hard as he can in physical therapy while down in Atlanta. More than one of you has asked me about an address to send donations.  I know GoFundMe isn't for everyone.  If you want to go that route, you can make a check to "Blackman Wrestling Club" and we will pass anything received directly to the Kinderdines.   Jacob Kinderdine c/o Blackman Wrestling 4836 Trevino Court Murfreesboro, TN  37128 Also, want to thank everyone who has donated so far.  Jacobs dad will take a month off work and stay in Atlanta with him.  They need to learn how to take care of him and do home therapy work..... and surely Jacob will be glad his dad can be there.  All that could not happen without you all.  Depending on what happens, they will probably end up doing some home remodeling in order to accommodate Jacob at their home.  Thanks again. Here's a pic I lifted from Facebook of Jacob on Oxy talking to his Uncle.  LOL
