I posted this many years ago and would like to see what you think now. I am not trying to be anything but positive with this. I actually coach in Fl and use the names mentioned to try to find games online to watch of coaches mentioned so that I can actually use this as a learning tool for myself and then obviously take what I have learned to help my own team. Please let me know who you think are the best and please keep this topic on a positive level. Thanks in advance.

In the Knoxville area I believe some of the best coaches are Mike Hutchens (Catholic), Gary Barnes (Powell), Bill Duncan (Heritage), Randy Moore (Halls) and Jody Wright (Fulton). Four of my choices are based on those teams success versus the competitive schedules they play without having the athletes that most schools have. Jody's team are well coached and play great defense.

Jodys teams most always have better athletes than their competition. C'mon....

In Shane Wells time at CAK they've never even had a D2 scholarship player, far superior coach to Hutchins.

Since Catholic and CAK have been in the same district, CAK is 6-3 vs Catholic. CAK has beaten Catholic the past two years in the district title game, one time on Catholic's home court.

Duncan at Heritage is an excellent coach.

I know that's why I said 4 of the 5. He's not one of the four. I wasn't ranking just giving an opinion. I was adding coaches that I think are good in addition to ones mentioned. To be honest all these coaches sacrifice family and personal time to work with these young men and try to be role models. Edited by QSouth89

Since Coach Hutchens has a lifetime record of something like 28-7 vs CAK, I'll give him the upper hand. Don't get me wrong Shane does an excellent job and he's had some really good talent the last few years. In 2014 and 2015 key players injured (Smith and Anderson) or playing hurt (Kuerschen and Scott) was an issue but CAK had the better team and won. This year a two point victory at CAK, a 16 point loss at Catholic and a questionable basket that was at first waved off then counted for a one point victory makes for far superior coaching? Oh well the last time I check this is America and it's all opinions that we are entitled too. I know both guys very well and both IN MY OPINION do a great job with the players they have. And they are great role models for their players. CAK is 6-3 the last three years, but when Catholic was AAA they played CAK with Wells coaching and CAK lost both games in 2011 and 2012. • Egotistical? That's a new one.  It's funny, I'm friends with two of the younger coaches that he "ran off" as you say. In fact, he helped them find jobs, encouraged them to do what was best for their growing families, provided advice, support and still does to this day.

    • Track has always been big at OR. Ran off about 7 straight titles in the 60s. Your hate for Gaddis runs deep, huh? What did he ever do to you, to make you disdain him that much? You can’t seem to stop talking about the guy. He’s living rent free in your head. Might wanna get that checked out. Not good to go to the grave with that in your heart.
    • This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…
    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
