I think Kendal Dancy at Haywood has done the most with the least recently.  Not only did he lose a ton of talent to graduation he doesnt have alot of help from administration. If Haywood put a little more in their facilites and programs I think this guy could put state contenders on the floor every year.

Very good stuff. I'll be looking some of these guys up to watch online if possible. Some of these I have watched already and even a few I have talked with (picked their brain) and learned from. I appreciate the input and welcome any others. Not many from Memphis area on here obviously. Thanks again!

Why should they put more into facilities if he don't put the time in with his players. Do you ever see Dancy in the summer time? He had that team since middle school that won the state. So you don't really have to do much, but if you put in that extra work just imagine how good they would be. Not knocking him or hating on him, just don't think he is 1 of the best coaches. also, the team he put on the floor last year was no push over. 3 of his starters was playing major minutes so not really a down year

Aaron is a very good coach. Three years ago let's call it like it is they were robbed of a title. One of the worse calls I've ever seen but human error happens. Two years ago they drew Memphis East they have 3 major D-1 recruits (unless I'm wrong maybe more). Last year they were upset by Davey Crockett. Upsets happen in basketball but Crockett had a good team.

I say best coaches are ones who have to work with less. Not Haywood, or Oak Ridge. Me or the posters on here could coach these teams to 20 wins a year on talent alone. A lesser program who no one ever talks about but is always consistent year in and out

Colt Narramore at Kingston does a fantastic job, Kevin Windle at WB. The coach at Scott Co is really good just no talent. Grainger County has a really good coach as well.

I heard at the Rocky Top that Scott County's coach took an assistant coaching position at Alcoa. When I made my list of coaches it was based on coaches who are competitive with less talent while playing tough schedules. My under appreciated list lol: Gary Barnes, Randy Moore, Mike Hutchens, Bill Duncan, Shane Wells and I agree Colt Narramore is an excellent coach. Lee Henson does a good job too. Edited by QSouth89

I don't think you can hold it against a guy's coaching ability if he happens to have the players.

IMO, I think the best coaches are the ones who sustain excellence over time (i.e. program builders) but winning a state championship(s) isn't necessary to prove you are a great coach. IMO, great players are much more necessary than great coaching when it comes to winning state titles. If it was just coaching, the best coaches would win titles every year in hoops.

Even in football, I think guys like Quarles and Rankin should be considered great coaches because of the sustained excellence of their programs, not because of their number of state titles. They have racked up the state titles because they have better players than their opponents, generally speaking. Nick Saban didn't win national titles at Michigan State but was the same coach there as he has been at LSU and Alabama.

Prior to Dancy taking over how many 20 win seasons did Haywood have?  Every since he has been at Haywood he has averaged 20+ wins every season PLUS a state championship.  What Haywood team has won or even been in the state finals prior to Dancy? Your post shows how good of a coach he is if he can maintain a competitive group from middle school through high and win the ultimate prize.  All this guy does is win!!!

    • Well I believe they got class of 2024* Blake Heckmann  And class of 2023* Cal Grubbs mixed up in with class of 2023 Army DL commit Caleb Graham whom played both sides of the play.
