Whitehaven @ Arlington

This is a very big district game in Region 4, 6A. Last year Arlington rolled into the Haven and pulled off a two-minute drill from their 10 yard line to score the go ahead TD. They only left Whitehaven with about 19 seconds on the clock if I remember correctly.

Currently, Arlington, Bartlett, Cordova, Collierville, and Whitehaven are all 2-0 on the season.

Whitehaven's first two opponents were D1, 2A, Region 8, Mitchell and ASHAA Class 6A Florence, Alabama. Both are 0-2 on the season with Mitchell losing to Whitehaven 33-0,  and D1, 1A, Region 7, Union City 48-24 While Florence lost to ASHAA 6A, Clay-Chalkville 53-48, and Whitehaven 31-20.

Arlington's first two opponents were D1, 5A, Region 8, Kirby and D1, 2A, Region 8 Manassas. Both of them are also 0-2 on the season. Manassas lost to Class 5A, MS school, Center Hill, 27-6 and they lost to Arlington 41-8. Kirby lost to Arlington 49-14 and they lost to Class 6A, MS school, Horn Lake 56-22.

So ... with the history out of they way ... what do you guys have to say?

I hope the staff and players take that L from last year so personally that they don't let up if/when they get up. I look forward to making this trip to the out skirts of the County. Run The Ball. Stop the Run. We do those things we should have a fun time in Arlington. If we make this game a Special Teams battle we'll have trouble, trouble.

The Haven not as good as previous years, but still the best in Memphis.

We've played two games this season, and we have the same record at this time of the season then we did last year at this time playing against the same two schools. Both wins this year, against those same two teams, were better wins overall, (line play, skill positions, execution) then at this point last season. Yet, you say, we are not as good as in previous years. I'm wondering when you came to see Whitehaven play this year, because, clearly, you've seen something that we haven't seen. MJGOLDENBEARS ... that's an impressive skill you have there.

I'm pretty confident this one has been circled on the schedule since last year. Motivation is NOT a problem. We have to be solid in all phases of the game to beat this team.

However, this game will be decided in the trenches. Will the Whitehaven D-line be able to play competitively against the Arlington O-line. Will the Whitehaven O-line be able to block the Arlington D-line. The line play is the most critical in this game. Last year, late in the game, we got inside the 10 yard line and didn't come away with any points. They got the ball back with two minutes and some change, and drove the length of the field to cap the drive off with the go-ahead score. We can't afford to have that happen again against a quality team like Arlington. We have to score in those situations.

Last season's L to Arlington was due to the Arrogance that is sometimes displayed from Us... I truly hope that we have learned that just because we are dominating statistically doesn't mean anything if you're not up 21+ points on a team that has a QB that they believe in.

Arlington, like ALL the other teams in this area get up to play Da Haven. I hope we start getting up to beat folks EARLY so we can let the young folks get some play such as #33 and #25 at RB. #65 at OL/DL and #20 at LB. The future shines brightest when they gain experience on Friday nights

That QB at Arlington is SPECIAL. He's a 3rd year starting junior. Let that sink in for a minute. He's an accurate thrower from the pocket and he gets rid of the ball pretty quickly. If flushed, he's speedy. Yeah ... I kinda think that Arlington believes in their QB.

#33, #25, #65, and #20 are all in the rotation. They play regardless of the score. Heck ... #20 is phenomenal to just be a freshman! The way we rotate linemen in and out of the game on both offensive and defensive lines, more then #65 will play during the game, regardless of the score. Our line play is about 8 - 10 deep.

What I want to see is more short routes to #9, #12, #14, and #17. When #11 is the pressure release alternative ... throw it to him when the other team drops all of their dbs into coverage.

This is a VERY big game for us.

Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
