WestHigh4Life
It should be used in cold weather games only lol. In all seriousness I see the argument of both sides however u have some teams coaches who purposefully run it up and its only in place bc these guys don't know when to quit when the other team is done. ADS1
Let's just say, if there weren't a mercy rule nowadays, some games would last 4-5 hours (spread teams completing 1 pass attempt out of three, makes for a slow clock). Those teams naturally are trying to "get back in the game," and it's torturing to even watch them games. -Shucks, I remember John Mullinax getting upset with Bill Horton for "running up the score" in 1985 (Rhea County beat McMinn County 34-0)... wouldn't even shake his hand after the game. LOL. Edited August 30, 2016 by ADS1
ADS1
I've been on both sides of the running clock, and I can say that I've never been sad to see it kick in when that situation happens.AGREED 100%!
BKisler
I dont like the rule. I agree with those that say it takes time and experience away from second and third team players. I have problems when it is a running clock and a team is up by 35 ; then the other team scores and it goes back running the clock as normal. I have seen teams down by 35 and then lose by 14. Running clock killed them. They may have been able to win the game. I understand that those are exceptions; but it still has happened. thegreatwhite1
It's a great rule. There is a game every monday night for 2nd and 3rd string, and it is called JV.

OakRidgeWildcat
I'm glad someone finally said this. +1 We could always go back to the old system of Freshman,JV and Varsity teams. Talking about the mercy rule my alma mater in a state where there is no mercy rule lost their first two games by the combined score of 120-0 Edited August 30, 2016 by OakRidgeWildcat
32hammer
The more I think about it, I think the Mercy rule should start in the 4th or the other team must be up by 49.
Solomon
I'd rather it start automatically in 4th quarter or at half of both coaches are in agreement. there's been a few games it should have started at opening kickoff.

plumb69
91-0? This is a sign. The Govs are going to beat DB 91-0. I'm the lucky charm this week. I'm going to play 9-1-0 on that three number lottery thing, can't let a good sign go to waste. Go D-B.
