I bet Fulton will drop back to 4 in a couple of seasons. Austin East is keeping more of the kids zoned AE that have been going to Fulton. 5A will be a challenge for the Falcons

Other reports of schools choosing to play up in 5A -- or leaving 5A to join 6A?

Knox Catholic will cruise year in year out. Only Rhea is consistent in that region right now. And really making White county continue to travel those distances. Plus if a private continues to choose to play D1. TSSAA should up the multiplier. Having your cake and eating it too ?

Catholic's bigger issue is going to be finding a 10-game schedule, plus extra travel (if they end up in Region 4), now that four Knox-area 4A teams have elected to move up.

I'd put White in the group with Franklin County and send another from the Knoxville area into the group with Rhea.

Yep. Traveling 75 is way easier than traveling 24 or the other way across the plateau. Especially Mt Eagle.

White Co. is one of the casualties of the excessive classes in football. There's no good placement for them. TSSAA could have easily placed them with Rutherford and Sumner last time around but chose instead to mix time zones and put White Co. in Region 4. Who knows what they'll do this time, but there is that most recent precedent, plus a quick Google Maps inquiry reveals that the avg. distance/ drive time from White Co. HS to the 5 other schools (Catholic, Lenoir City, Rhea, Soddy, Walker Valley) projected above for Region 4 is 81 miles/ 1 hour 28 minutes. Again using Google Maps the schools projected above for Region 5 avg. 90 miles/ 1 hour 45 minutes from White Co. HS. Projected Region 6 schools avg. 96 miles/ 1 hour 31 minutes from White Co. HS. Also wouldn't think the TSSAA would want to break apart a pair of otherwise sensible regions (5 and 6) just to better accommodate White Co. -- especially considering no truly good fit can be achieved. But, again, who knows.

Rhea County and Soddy are the closest to White County.  From Soddy it is straight shot up on a 4 lane highway so not that bad.  For Rhea County, it is a little more difficult though you can stay on a 4 lane highway - just more miles.  The other schools are long drives for White County. 

 

I feel for them - the schools closest to them are in another classification.

Walker Valley is better than you might think.  They always field a good competitive team just not as consistent yet.

Been watching them since they opened the doors. I'd say you're right about the consistency. Always have a few players. This years teams very talented. Next year I'd change it up some of offense and defense. They could put a pretty physical team in the field as far as the line of scrimmage goes. I like the d they played against Rhea in varsity and Jv games. Get more pressure on that line. Not a lot of teams can throw down field great.
