Region 4A Predictions

Trousdale County @ Clay County

Gordonsville @ Pickett County

Monterey @ Watertown

Jackson County @ Goodpasture

Personally feel Clay wins by however many they want. I got Pickett County by 12 since PC is probably one of the hardest places to play in the state especially in big games. Gordonsville has talent but I feel the home crowd will keep PC fired up.

Monterey has upset potential since they have already beat Watertown once but I think Watertown wins in a close one by 4-6. JC at Goodpasture is a rematch from last year where JC sent GP home on their home floor. This game also depends on which JC shows up. Will it be the one who beat Clay and Van Buren at home? I feel GP gets revenge and wins by 10 to set up a showdown with Clay in the semis.

Per CoachT scores Goodpasture beat Jackson County tonight 55-51. I thought all of the boys games took place tomorrow?

We played the game tonight as both of our teams played each other so it made economical sense to play this game tonight for all of us.

As for the game, well i'll just say that i lost a lot of respect for some referee's tonight and their ability to call a fair game.  I want someone to explain to me where it is written that when you go on the road you have to get the shaft on the calls?  15-3 was the foul count tonight in the 2nd half and the 3rd foul wasn't called until the end of the game.  I'm not saying that JC didn't foul 15 times but i guarantee you GP fouled just as much without a whistle.  We get 2 rebound's under our goal with 6 seconds left to go in the game, we're only down 2 and get absolutely hammered twice trying to put it back in and no call.  I'm sick of watching this type of refereeing by men that are supposed to call it fair.  I've watched and coached in hundreds of games and I know a foul or 10 when i see them  If its a foul in the first quarter if its a foul on the visiting team then that same foul should be called in the fourth quarter and on the home team.  I want someone to tell me where this "unwritten" rule is that you get the shaft as a visiting team just because you have to travel to another gym to play.  There is no way these men that called this game can justify what they did to the Jackson County boys tonight no way.  You notice i didn't say a word about the girls game right?  That's because for whatever reason they allowed the players in the girls game to decide the outcome and the best team won, Goodpasture girls.  I'm sick and tired of watching games like this.  They absolutely swallowed the whistle on the 2 put backs we had to tie the game up.  They absolutely decided not to call ANY FOULS against the home team and as a fan that is so very frustrating to me.  I just don't understand it but if they can sleep at night i can.  I"m not saying that JC would have won or should have won, the private school boys played hard and they are a solid team, however when you have to beat 8 and Jackson Co. for sure had to beat  8 tonight instead of 5 then it makes it much harder.  I promise you this, had the foul count been the other way around Jackson County would have won.  That much i do know.

Ah ok makes sense. Scores reflect a defensive game. Thoughts on a GP vs Clay since you have seen both?

Should be a good game.  The private school  is long and athletic, they've got some good post players and their point guard is solid.  They don't have anyone close to the level of Key so they cannot guard him in man  I look for them to pack in the zone and try to press and trap off the press. Should be a good game but in the end Clay is just better than them and i see Clay winning by 10 unless Clay's 3's are falling then it gets ugly because they'll have to play man and it will be a layup/dunk fest for Key if that happens.

Clay's shooting ability is underestimated. If Russell and Smith are hot Clay is very tough to beat as that creates so much space for Key to drive.

You're right but in my opinion the one that everyone underestimates on Clay's team is Atchlock.  This kid is good, i love the way he plays the game and he's only a freshman.  I'm looking forward to watching him match up against the bigs of the private school.  I'll say this if you box out you'll get some "push in the back" calls (notice i didn't say over the back because that's not a call)  but they do a great job crashing the boards and rebounding on both ends of the floor.  Had we had a crew that cared about the game we would have gotten at least 5 calls as they came over and through us tonight to get a rebound.

Concur. Kimes, Jake, Silk, Ogletree, and Emberton are all great young players. Clay will be a tough out for years to come even after this year seniors graduate.

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
    • I suppose you are correct but from my understanding it was going to be a situation of the HC saying yay or nay to every play
