Region 4A Predictions

This will be the last year that VanBuren County enjoys a cupcake schedule to host the Substate game. After this year they move into the same region as District 7A.

Agreed. Next year will be different however Mills is only a junior so I suspect VB will be a very good team next year. However their only competition this year is CSAS. Clay county beat VB by 25+ twice and CSAS by 20+ twice so that tells you the difference in competition compared to 7A.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Back in 2010-2011 they were doubted once they moved to District 6A and ever since then they have made that district their play ground.

I do recall last year Coach Edwards did say that the last place he wanted to play in a Sub-State game would be at Van Buren Co.

Mills and company will all be Seniors next year & if they make it past Sub-State that'll be THREE years in a row for them to go to State. I certainly wouldn't count them out.

They are a quality team no doubt but they benefit by playing in a weak region. I'm by no means saying they won't make it this year and or next year because they have a solid team but if they get upset they can't win on the road. They lost to every team in 7A on the road so they'll need home court to advance and I don't see them beating teams out of 7A on a neutral floor like they'll have to next year.

they will be solid again next year. after that it will go downhill fast. don't know if it will happen or not i have always said since they were in elementary school that those boys will win state one year when they get in high school. don't think it will be this year. maybe next.

Mills is a solid player no doubt and they really play well at home.  After he graduates they will struggle to get out of the first round of the region but for now they are a legitimate contender to go to the glass house.  Should be a great game between them and whomever comes out of this region.

I expect Clay to win fairly comfortably. So I will take them by 12-15. It's hard to beat a team 4 times but feel Clay is that much better. It shouldn't be a 30 point blowout like in the season though.

I predict Clay will host CSAS and PC will travel to Van Buren with Clay and VB making it to the glass house again.

    • Tax payer dollars are paid for certified teachers to "teach" and then coach. The primary job is to teach.  There are some district that ay awesome supplements and others that don't. Dyersburg and Dyer County are pretty close if I remember correctly. I would imagine that Football and basketball are above $10,000 now.  I've heard that Milan is $20,000 for boys basketball. I would imagine that football is more than that in Milan.  Collierville has camps that coaches get paid extra for. 3 camps a year, 100 kids a camp, $30,000 right there.  There are places like Memphis-Shelby County schools where the supplements are garbage even for the head coaches. I made less than $3,000 as the head assistant at Germantown in 2015 when we were 26-4 and one of the best teams in the Southeast. As a head middle school coach next year I will make between $4-5,000 at a municipal in Shelby County.  Coaches should be compensated for the jobs that are required but lets keep in mind that they are educators first.  It's pretty frustrating to other teachers that work their tale off teaching 6-7 classes a day to watch someone roam campus, not teach (or have very minimal responsibilities), and get paid the same (more with supplements) as a person who has the some years of experience or sometimes less.
    • This will get coaches leaving the profession very quickly if this kid wins this case. This is absurd...
    • yeah money aint right there anymore
    • I suppose you are correct but from my understanding it was going to be a situation of the HC saying yay or nay to every play
