Time to do away with the "sub states"...

Make it a sweet 16 tournament...I've always considered the sub state, sectional or whatever you call it the first round of the state anyway so let 16 teams come to the Boro.

But it wouldn't be just 16 teams. It would be 48 teams. The logitiscs and scheduling would be too much to overcome. Even the NCAA doesn't have more than 8 team in anyone location at a time.

Agreed 16 per class/48 total teams isnt feasible at MTSU. It would take a full week just to complete one class instead of 4 days for all 3. The schools and state wouldn't allow for that much time to be missed of class or be willing to add that much time to the end of the school year just for sports. As the days from the state tournament have to be made up and snow days etc can't replace them.

Maybe if they made each class at a different location and run them concurrent then maybe but that isn't going to happen.

That is the idea...hold it at different venues. I know it is far fetched but I just don't like the "sub state" tag...it is the first round of the state. TBCH I am not a fan of the state setup in the first place...never have been. I also think district tournaments are a joke...they should have been done away with long ago.

District tournaments decide which teams advance to regionals. Regular season decides seeding for the district tournament, and regional tournaments decide who gets to host, and who travels for sectionals (sub state). I can't understand why people want to tinker with something when it actually works...if you just have idle time and want to "fix" some aspect of the TSSAA, there are plenty of issues that need tweaking or outright overhauls.

Based on the wording by the OP, I suspect what the OP really wants is to be able to place the words "State Tournament" on a banner to hang in the gym. The words "Sectional" or "Sub-State" just doesn't have enough panache.

It is what it is...if you win the last game of the season, you either were crowned state champion or you weren't very good at all. Being a district, regional, or "sub state" champion is an accomplishment to be proud of, but in the grand scheme it's just a step toward the ultimate goal. The progression actually works. There's no way to ensure that the eight that go to Murfreesboro are the best eight in the state, or that the best team wins the gold ball, but the process actually allows each team an "equal" opportunity.

Maybe that is what I am really trying to say...the 8 teams that make it to the Boro aren't necessarily the best teams.
