BDURHAM
Does anyone know where I can get an accurate history of Nashville high school football? I have two specific questions: 1) Has any Nashville team had three undefeated seasons in-a-row? 2) Has any Nashville team gone to the state championship in back-to-back seasons? Yes, I am attempting to determine how the 2002 Hillsboro football team compares to previous Nashville teams. Thank you for any thoughtful response. Redtwin
mba went to 4 in a row and won the last three from 97-2000. the last two were undefeated, and they totaled a 32 game win streak and a 34-2 record over the three state titles. pearl cohn won two in a row in 96 and 97. ba won two from 94-96. they also won two in a row from 87-88, and three in a row from 80-82. rollredroll
Since "history" has no time constraints: The 1925-1927 MBA teams went 9-0, 7-0, and 7-0, outscoring opponents 1,191 to 19 (21 shutouts during that stretch). The 1966-1968 MBA teams went 9-0-1, 10-0, and 11-0, outscoring opponents 982 to 91 and including Clinic Bowl wins over Litton, Stratford, and Gallatin. BDURHAM
Redtwin, According to my search of the TSSAA records, Father Ryan was the Champ in 1997. MBA won state titles in '98,'99,'00, and '02. MBA was runner-up in 1997. Are the TSSAA records incorrect? crazebear
Stan, In the old days there was no state champion crowned in Tennessee football. Any "state "championship was purely mythical. You played ten games and then maybe a bowl. The clinic bowl was held on Thanksgiving I believe and would feature teams such as MBA, Ryan and Litton who were the powerhouses of the time. As more schools were opened in the Nashville area, the talent became more spread out. Don Harris, a referee who teaches at Whites Creek put out a magazine in the 70's called "NIL Magazine" that contained a pretty in-depth history of Nashville area football from the 40's to the 70's. I still have a copy from 1974. Perhaps he might have one left over somewhere. Let me know what you dig up.
SCRAPPY
Brentwood Academy won three straight AA crowns('80, '81 & '82) I think and lost in the semis in '83. They didn't lose many during that streak. Kent Austin, Tim Jones and one of the McIntyre boys quarterbacked.
SCRAPPY
My bad, you asked about Nashville and BA's on the wrong side of Old Hickory Blvd. They just got several good 'students' from Metro. Funny none of the guys I knew that transferred to BA were very good violinists.
msgov
rollredroll, My husband thought MBA played Springfield in the Clinic Bowl in 1967. Would you check this for me - I'm afraid he's losing his memory.
coach763
I believe that you are right.......I think Stratford had just opened as a school and I do not think Stratford ever played in the old Clinic Bowl format. Springfield was in that game on several occasions
