If you are in the Cleveland area this weekend and can get this to this game, you are in for a treat. Jasmine Hassel may be the number one player in the state. Hassel, a 6'2" center, put up 26 or so points in the AAA state championship game against a very good and quick Millington team. She is also the reigning Miss Basketball for AAA along with MVP of the championship game. Don't be surprised when you see Jasmine bringing the ball up the floor. She has smooth yet powerful post moves and can step out and make the mid-range jumper. If you plan to key on Hassel, you have shot yourself in the foot.
Ieshia Hassel, yes Jasmine's little sister, is following in her sisters foot steps to becoming a great power forward. Ieshia??™s presence on the floor and on the glass takes just enough attention off of Jasmine that as a duo they will kill you. If you triple team Jasmine, understand that Ieshia is on the other side of the basket awaiting a pass from her sister.
When you think you have a solution for the Hassels, do not stop there. If you do the very skilled guards will have their way with you. Jessyca Christopher gained a lot of experience last season when one of her fellow guards went down from an injury. Jessyca may be one of the smaller players on the court, but her stature as a leader makes up for it tenfold. She, along with the rest of her teammates, plays with a winning attitude and has the passion for the game to go along with it. If there is a big play on the floor, Jessyca will let you know with a big fist pump or a good rebel yell as she gets back on defense.
To add to the guard play is Lauren Wasson. At 5'10" many teams would have her playing post, but for Coach Brandon she is playing forward. Lauren will take you off of the dribble and pull up for a mid range jumper. Also, watch for the spectacular entry pass from Wasson to either Hassel or Hassel, take your pick.
I am not real familiar with the rest of the team, but be sure that they will only add dimension to this team.
As for the game, it might stay close for a little while, but the seasoned team from Wilson Central will pull this one out. The freshmen for Sequatchie Co. will have a lot of trouble with the reigning AAA State Champions. If Sequatchie had not lost three starters from last season, this would be a very different game and quite possibly the best game in the state this coming weekend. But given the circumstances, it will be a long day for Sequatchie Co.
