  1. Hal Murrell has been hired as the new Summit girls’ basketball coach, the school announced today. Murrell was the girls’ coach at Forrest High School (Chapel Hill). He’s also coached at Columbia & Dickson Co. among others. He replaces John Wild, who departed for a coaching & AD position at Santa Fe. May 9, 2023 Reported By: Charles Pulliam @cspulliam

  3. Any word on Forrest in Chapel Hill? Both the girls & boys head coaching jobs went up on the TSSAA bulletin board 9 days ago. Coach Bishop coached both teams last season.

  5. Didn't know if they would maybe go a little more north/south with some of the schools this time...
  6. Would this be a close guess? Looks like maybe Houston Co. & Adamsville could go a couple different ways. Reg 4 Trousdale Co. East Robertson Westmoreland Watertown Jackson Co. Clarksville Acad. 10. Is Forrest/Chapel Hill having a jamboree this year? Schedule?
  11. Saw last night Coach Chris Parker announced he was leaving Forrest to be the head coach at East Hickman. Said job was closer to his Dickson home. Any ideas on who'd be interested in Forrest job since school's about to start? Coach Henson at Forrest maybe? Forrest job posted on TSSAA: BB - Forrest High School (Chapel Hill, TN) has an immediate opening for a Personal Finance/Driver’s Education /Head Baseball Coach. Deadline is ASAP. Apply online at https://www.siestaon-line.com/apps/ja4702670.aspx or call Julie B. Thomas, H.R. Coordinato: (931) 359-1581, Ext. 2028. (07/30/2014)
  12. Agree that this is how they'd do it, but always wondered if there is any rule that says they have to have equal divisions? Let's say after dividing into 3 divisions, there are 12 schools (just picking a number) at the bottom of Class AA that are a lot closer in enrollment to the Class A schools than school 13. Why not just keep them in Class A? And do the same with dividing the AA to AAA classes. If it makes the enrollments more balanced, and it's workable when dividing up the regions, is it that big a deal if Class A had 12 more schools or Class AAA had 14 fewer?
  13. What Indian is saying is sort of what I was thinking. If it would work out that way for a Jackson school, for example, with only a couple trips to Memphis a year and fill out the rest of your team's regular season with more local schools, isn't that fairly reasonable overall travel? Using Yahoo maps, its 88 miles from Jackson to Memphis. We know about travel too. As it is now, the school I back (Forrest) has been making regular season non-region trips to places like Collinwood (82 miles), Perry Co. (76 miles), White House Heritage (72 miles) & Clarksville Acad. (94 miles) in recent years anyway. And one of our traditional region rivals is Huntland (58 miles). And the new proposals without a split have us looking at trips to Smith Co. (80 miles) & Jackson Co. (112 miles). If nothing else it would be interesting to see how a full public private split would look on paper and see what affect it would have on travel.
  14. Whether there is a public/private split or not, the one thing I've never fully understood is why the D1 privates are so strongly opposed to it? It seems like they don't want to play with other private schools just as bad as the public schools. Wouldn't they be joining with schools that they have more in common with than the publics? And probably would have less regular season travel and be able to build stronger local rivalries since most are in the bigger cities. I'm guessing finanacial aid is the main reason, but is whatever aid Davidson Acad. gives really giving it a big advantage over Goodpasture? Is whatever aid FRA & DCA provide giving them a big advantage over CPA? It won't happen, but do the split, divide public schools into A, AA, & AAA and the privates into small & large. 5 state champs is enough for TN. That number seems to work for most of the sports now anyway and would preserve the local rivalries. Plus we wouldn't have to change playoff systems every few years. And the publics & privates can still play each other if they want...in regular season non-region games.
