  1. Megatron. I don't know if you are right in saying that one of those teams will have to go to Memphis. The regions are set up different this year, and Haywood is in region 8 now.(Not sure which district hosts the region) I would say Haywood is the favorite to win Region 8. No disrespect to Douglas, Manassas, or Raleigh-Egypt. I think those 3 and Haywood are all better than the number 2 team from Region 7. But, I would predict South Side and Haywood to host the substate games and both to advance to state. It wouldn't be a huge shock to see one of those 3 knock off Haywood or South Side, but it would definitely be an upset. South Side has already beaten Raleigh-Egypt this year and Haywood has beaten Southwind, neither should be underestimated.
  2. Looks like they filled it... http://www.jacksonsun.com/article/20110430/SPORTS/104300306/1006/Hayes-returns-South-Side
  3. Here is a link to an article in the Commercial Appeal, that I thought might interest some people on here: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/20 ... ping-hand/ Tim Howard is a generous guy.
  4. Coniglio, Madison will get a chance to see how they stack up early in the season this spring, to see if they should be that high or drop. Union University is hosting a tournament the second weekend into the season that will have some solid A/AA teams in it. There are 2 groups that will play round robin, with the winner of each group playing in the final. One group will have Madison, Haywood, Hume-Fogg, and White House. The other group will have Kingsbury, CPA, White House Heritage, and Trinity Christian. That tournament has the 4,6,8,9,10, and 11 in the same tournament, along with Kingsbury who as I previously posted must have been overlooked.
  5. Did you forget about Kingsbury dropping to A/AA from AAA? That almost has to be an oversight, they are a very good team. (Also, Fayette Academy is in Div.2-A now not A/AA)
  6. Coach Mike, I heard the same speech last week, so I'm pretty sure I know which ref you had last night. As for soccerdevil's question, I have seen some calls overturned by players or coaches arguing with a ref. The worst was in a region semifinal game about 6 years ago, that I remember very clearly. A ref signaled for a PK for a hand ball in the box. The player who committed the foul ran at the ref and yelled at him saying it was uninitentional. To my complete shock, the ref decided to have a drop ball in the box at the spot of the handball. Needless to say, I yelled a little, but for some reason my yelling was the normal type, meaning it got ignored by the ref. At half, I went directly over to speak with the ref, and I said I had never seen a call, yet alone a PK overturned by a player arguing with him. His response was he hadn't ever overturned one before either, but that he didn't think a game this important should be decided by a PK.
  7. Did you ever check where Harding Academy was located? My guess is that they would be the "already DII Champion" that he was talking about...
  8. The answer to this question is on the home page, or follow this link to read about the proposal... http://dnj.com/article/20090317/SPORTS08/9...016/1006/SPORTS
  9. The new districts and Regions are now up on the TSSAA website: For A/AA - http://www.tssaa.org/A-AAdistricts.pdf For Div. 2 - http://www.tssaa.org/d2regions.pdf I'm assuming the AAA is the same as it is for football and everything else, since nothing else is posted. And if it is, District 4 is a tough place to be with Bearden, Farragut, Catholic, West, Maryville, Lenoir City, you'd have a tough time arguing that is not the toughest district in the state. Some of the other areas are sort of messed up, I know it is hard to please everyone, but they really should take into account which schools even have teams for each sport. In the A/AA west in Region 7 and 8, it is really odd. Only 2 teams in District 13, with 9 or 10 in District 14. (Which means that they will not even have a district tournament only a region tournament with just 2 teams in one district, which has happened in Region 8 the last few years.) And then in Region 8, there are 11 or 12 teams in District 15, with only 3 teams in District 16. (At least 3 is enough to have 2 district tournaments.) Anyone else have some thoughts on the new districts?
  10. Here is the link to the new classifications: http://www.tssaa.org/Classifications/2009Classes.htm Lots of surprising changes, especially in Division 2. There are only 9 Boys teams in Class AA for the whole state?? But over 20 in Class A? Several strong A/AA teams now jump to AAA, including Knox. Catholic, Jackson Northside, Station Camp, Seymour, just to name a few. And some AAA teams dropped down to A/AA. Kingsbury will probably be one that will make some noise dropping a class out in the west. Greeneville may be one of the better AAA teams to drop in the east. Some other changes in the west that I thought were interesting were JCM and Liberty going back to A/AA and Dyer County moving to AAA. Dyesburg just stayed under the line to stay in A/AA. It will be very interesting to see what the new districts and regions will be when they are released. Does anyone else have any thoughts about these changes?
  11. TSSAA released the breakdowns for the classes, but have not announced the new districts and regions yet. Here is the link to the new classifications: http://www.tssaa.org/Classifications/2009Classes.htm The breakdown for Division 2 was interesting. Very few teams in AA, several teams in A. Very surprised to see BGA, ECS, Webb, Brent. Acad, Hutchison, Ensworth and others drop down.
  12. Ray Jones will be the new head coach for Haywood. He has coached Haywood Junior High for several years. I think he will do an excellent job.
  13. In district 13AAA that is the semifinal. There are only 3 teams in the district and JCM is the number 1 seed. The winner of that game will play JCM tomorrow.
  14. Kingsbury won in the finals over JCS 3-2. They had beaten JCS earlier in the day 5-1. JCS was missing a few starters though in the first game and in their 1-1 tie with Westview due to the ACT test going on at the same time. Most teams were missing a few guys for the early games because of the ACT. Kingsbury was the best team in the tournament though, and they deserved to win. Congrats to them.
  15. Well, the schedule changed a lot this week. Milan and McNairy cancelled this week, which sort of left the Liberty coach in a bind. This is the adjusted schedule(note:all games are 25 minute halves with 5 min halftime): Pool A Pool B Liberty Martin Haywood JCS Lexington Kingsbury 5 pm (Friday) Haywood vs. Liberty (3-3 tie) 10am Martin vs. JCS 11am Liberty vs. Lexington 12pm JCS vs. Kingsbury 1pm Kingsbury vs. Martin 2pm Haywood vs. Lexington 3pm 1st Pool A vs. 2nd Pool B 4pm 1st Pool B vs. 2nd Pool A 5pm Winner 3pm game vs. Winner 4pm game
